well i finally lobbied enough with my wife to get her to agree to me getting some new gear.
I am thinking about pulling the trigger on an e6600 a bx2 mobo and some gskill ddr2 2 gigs. i want to keep everything else from my old rig (see sig).
1. will i have to reformat?
2. should i get vista ? (i dont know if i can find my xp disk)
those are my main questions. i know many of you are gonna tell me to wait for 45nm and the price cuts in july but i could be dead by then, and im waiting on the next lvl dx10 card already. Please repond my mom is coming here to TN from VA nxt week and if i get it shipped there i save 59 dllrs tax so i wnt to pull the trigger later on today (tue) at the latest.

thank you my friends

This is more of an OS question, but I'll bite.

1) Short answer yes. Long answer, yes, but there are ways around it. There should be something in the FAQ links in the OS forum about how to do it. You're probably best off reformatting though.

2) This is entirely personal preference. The only thing you might have trouble with that I see in your hardware is your X-Fi, but as of late people have stopped complaining as much. Either the drivers got better, or they're learning to live with it.

There will be a slight performance hit in games, but it's nothing that's impacted my gameplay. Hopefully this will go away as drivers improve.

Lol, you want the main components that I used to build my system.:p

1.) Yes you will need to reformat since its a new motherboard with different chipsets and all that.
2.) I guess thats just a personal preference. I mean if you cant find your XP disk then you might as well.

well i didnt really intend for this to be an os thread. but anyways ive heard that the bx2 has trouble with vista 64. i only play games on my comp i dont even have the net i have to dowload everything from my wifes pc and then transfer it. my pc is strictly for games. I built my brother a system with a bx2 and really liked it. what about my psu is that gonna cut it. I'm attached to it because i did my own sheathing on it? good timely responses fellas
