[H] reader E.E.C. sent me this picture of a leather keyboard on sale in Japan that, if Google translator is working right, is $550. Raise your hand if you would pay that much for a leather wrapped keyboard.

I wouldn't pay that for any keyboard, unless it had a built-in deli and bakery.

What, no whip? I could see how that would even sell. But in Japan, they're are into leather, bondage, and S/M....maybe it is a cash cow afterall.

Or if it had Internet connectivity and printed legitimate money based on which currency is currently most valuable.

But, seriously, keyboards need to start making sammiches. It's almost 2009, dammit!

Well, this keyboard would be great if you are lost somewhere remotely and need something to eat.

I don't think leather would taste very good. I think that is where gummy keyboard would fit that better.

Looks really nice. Maybe even nice enough for me to try to do a mod based on this. But I'm not going to pay 550 for it.

I get $200+ leather shoes and all because it lasts longer than plain fabric stuff, but what kind of quality keyboard is underneath this leather cover?. A generic $5 piece, or something like the Logitech G11/G15 originals, mine has been with me a year with only dust and grime to show, normally I'd been through at least four cheaper keyboards by this time, by simply wearing down the plastic so the print goes away or the top of the button cracks open.

Doesn't taste good, no. But you dip it in water and eat it if thats all you have left to eat. Leather can save your life :D Although, I have reason to believe that this leather isn't exactly edible (aka, epoxied to death).

that keyboard looks like crap... Like seriously, it looks terrible. see: hideous

I think it's as bad as paying $1500 for the optimus keyboard. But maybe that's because I only use my keyboard as a typing surface, not a monitor... :p

Most I'd pay for a keyboard is $100, but got a few Razer Tarantula's for under $80 each. $550 for a keyboard? Better type for me or something.

I was expecting to see one of those flat, roll-up type keyboards and I was disappointed... more so.

Looks like a Happy Hacking Lite 2 (http://www.pfusystems.com/hhkeyboard/hhkeyboard.html) ~$70 would have made more sense if they had used a Happy Hacking Pro, these things cost ~250 even without the added leather. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_Hacking_Keyboard)
