I RMA'd my 6800gt a month ago to Leadtek. It was only 8 months old at the time it failed. I was told twice that they were waiting for cards to come in to ship me a new one. Today they tell me that my card has been shipped to Taiwan to be repaired. Customer service like this is unacceptable on a product that failed this early in it's life. I would avoid Leadtek products if at all possible from now on. Thanks for letting me rant.

 Are you freaking serious!!! That is redicuous. is there any reason they just cant send you a new 6800GT and deal with the old one themselves. Why should you have to wait till they get it to and back from taiwan. Maybe the term "Customer Service" didn't make it through customs for them. Super Dissapointed.

My original LeadTek Geforce 256 DDR had a 3 year warranty. It failed the day after the warranty expired. No more LeadTek for me. :(

ouch... talk about bad luck

what the hell are they on? wouldn't it cost them more to fix it than to send a replacement?

i hope they don't do this to me when my Leadtek breaks down!

This is unfortunate. Assuming you deal with their customer service in America, write them a professional sounding email as to why you feel this is unacceptable and impractical and against all industry standards to put the burden on the consumer. I had to RMA my PSU with Monarch Computers (it was an enermax 600 watt SLI one, I had a 90 day warranty with them, I was still under warranty but they told me I would have to wait until they received a replacement from Enermax, so I explained to them why I felt it was unfair in a mature way and the next day I got a response saying they appreciated my business and would gladly ship out a new psu to me immediately)

I'm a RL friend of Kelly's. I've been attempting to provide moral support for him during this problem but its been hard. These jokers are REDICULOUS! After a couple weeks Kelly called to ask why he'd not yet been shipped a replacement and the rep told him that it would probably be a long time.

To me it sounded like they were just hoping he would give up! From what Kelly told me the guy basically insinuated (sp?) they'd never get it in so dont hold your breath. I was blown away when I heard this. So after another week he called to find out the status (today) and as mentioned told him they were mailing it off to be fixed. I call BS on this. After this crap I honestly believe they are so crappy of a company that they'd rather string kelly along till he gives up than just send out a replacement! I mean seriously... could it possibly be more financially benifical to them to ship it around the world and piss off a customer rather than just send out a replacement, or credit, or something?!!?

So, I also advise against Leadtek products. I know I certainly wont be purchasing any of their crap any time soon.

Thanks for sharing your story with the rest of the [H], things like definitly influence my purchases. Sorry about your RMA problems, I know the feeling. :(

Well, there's something to note in my logs for my uber purchase next year.

My next card won't be made by Leadtek, I can tell you that.

I almost chose them for my 6800GT, but I'm glad I looked elsewhere.

That is why I trust BFG and eVGA...very good service from both...
Sorry about your problem...Got to be a stalling tactic as the cost of shipping back and forth between here and Taiwan is crazy...Besides, where are all the techs for leadtek in the US? All outsourced back to Taiwan?

That really sucks. My Leadtek RMA was another story. Took less then a week to get my new card after I had shipped it. I was impressed enough to recommend Leatek to co-workers/friends....but this, just wow.....

Wow, that is one of the most insane RMA story I have ever heard.

Thats one company I will avoid like the plague.

I have a similar situation. I bought a Leadtek 6800 from newegg a couple months ago. Was pretty much DOA when it arrived. Picture was corrupted, and the system would freeze after a short while. After a few tries, it just stopped working at all.

So I put my trusty GF4 back in, and attempted to contact support. After a few tries, (4 or 5 days later) I got a response. The support guy says I will have to RMA my card. He includes a form for me to fill out, and then mail back. A few days later he finally sends me a number, and shipping instructions.

I shipped it off as soon as I got a chance. It came back though, because he gave me the wrong address. I tried emailing again for the correct address, but got no response again after 3-4 days. I then noticed the address was included in the manual. I shipped it off again, and hoped the manual was correct, because shipping packages is expensive these days.

Several days later, I track the package, and see that it arrived around 3:00 pm PST that day. Then I check my email:
Subject: Return the card back
From: unhelpfulguy@leadtek.com
Date: 11/21/2005 6:36 PM (CST)

Hi MyNameHere,

We received your card, and sent it to our repair station for checking.
Unfortunately, the card was rejected by repair station, because the damage
caused by customer's misuse that is not covered by warranty. We will return
the card back to you. Sorry for your inconvenience.

Best regards,

Unhelpful Guy

Awesome! They used the catch-all "misuse" to reject my card. (Probably a lot of RMAs lately) I try to ask what "misuse" means, but I think they put me on ignore or something. A week later, I got the card back. When I shipped the card to them it was in PERFECT condition. It looked new out of the box. (mainly because it was) What I got back didn't look new at all. The card looked like someone had dropped it on the floor, and kicked it around. The heatsink was all scratched up and dirty. The plastic at the top looked like someone had rubbed it with sandpaper. It also had some white powder stuff all over it.

Seeing that my emails to leadtek were going nowhere, I decided to try complaints@newegg.com. (total customer satisfaction is their goal after all) After a couple days, I got a response with some form letter saying I can get $25 off my next purchase. I guess that's better than nothing, but I'm not really feeling satisfied.

Any suggestions on what I can do with my $200+ doorstop now?

I feel for you guys, I just recently RMAed my 6800LE back to Leadtek, only to get the SAME card back with the SAME problems, they said they fixed it (yeah right). The only thing they did fix was they sent it back in a new Box with all the cables and Bundled software (more useless crap). I presonally think that Leadtek...aka Winfast...aka Foxconn has let me down. And i will NOT be purcasing any of their products in the future.

I did however learn that their 6800 Line (every model) from Leadtek were all plauged with Memory problems and high failure rates. That would explain the Artifacts in Firefox .

Damn those graphic intensive explorer windows....

Right now the 6800 sits in my Server which i have yet to test out yet...if I ever get a day off work i will get to benching it with Firefox or something.

Thats really sad, I'm sorry to hear that. I am a big supporter of Leadtek, because of the way they make their cards. Mine has been fine from the word go, in terms of performance and overclockerbility (if there is such a word), and I know a lot of people that have had very positive experiences with their graphics cards. So to those who say "avoid them like the plague", don't be so hasty in your judgement of them, because they are a very solid manufacturer of graphics cards in the market. But, I am sorry to hear such a sad tale of customer service :(

You will change your tune the day yours breaks, or you purchase a defective one like me.

My friend had a leadtek 6800GT, whose VGA port failed after 8 months. He kept the card since the DVI was working and his RMA was refused. Can you all say WTF?

What's more likely is that the US office is nothing more than a sales office (which is not uncommon for a lot of Asian companies) such that they're ill equipped to deal with individual RMAs and are probably barely able to handle tech support.

Well they have at least one person, because he was nice enough to play floor hockey with my card before shipping it back.

Damn folks this really sucks. Small consolation prize. Whew! I won't be buying from them anytime after hearing all this.

Sounds like the fun I had when I RMA'd my Gigabyte x800 xt card :(

While digging for info around the web, I found a few posts by people who got their cards replaced/fixed. The majority got screwed though.

ehhh...majority you say.....=/

i went thru this same thing. i bought a 6800 gt when it first came out, last winter i think, it broke within 6 weeks and i rma'd it. i waited 2 months for another card. i kept getting the same bullshit "we dont have any in stock" and i would reply if you dont have any in stock, how come newegg just got in a new batch? "no, we dont have any in stock here" but i thought the only ones you would have there are broken, rma'd cards?" we get shipments of cards to replace the rmas" well, since you are part of the leadtek organisation, cant you call somebody up and say that you have some angry customers waiting for video cards and since they have already paid for their cards, maybe they should get theirs in a timely fashion? "we have them on backorder" so i guess the fact that you have my money and my video card has nothing to do with me sitting here with no video card and my thumb up my ass? "goodbye"
leadtek sells reference boards, nothing special, no special bundles, no free mainboards, and lousy warranty (compared to evga, bfg, visiontek). as you can read in the above posts, their support sucks, buy another brand next time. (i am sure OP knows this by now. this is advice for anyone else considering a leadtek card)

Frankly I'm not surprised. I have read numerous horror stories about Leadtek RMA service throughout the web. When you compare eVGA's service to Leadtek, it makes Leadtek look like a bunch of jokers. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER buy a Leadtek.

Hopefully this thread will keep more people informed.

damn.....ive lost the courage to RMA my card and this whole time i thought leadtek was a top notch brand.......so a better question, who has had a good experience with leadtek's RMA service?

You need to try again. Threaten with legal action and I bet their tone will change....works every time.

..a side note, you need to be more assertive to big companies like that. Don't buckle down when they try to email you this BS about rejection. Call them up, casually talk to them, then if they start their reject tone, say something along these lines...

"No, This card is still under warrenty and it doesn't work. If you don't want to have some serious legal issues in your hands I suggest you either get the supervisor or start sending NEW the card.....NOW"

and just keep yelling....

Not that this is much consolation, but I'm assuming it's AGP? Maybe they made the switch to PCIe so completely that they totally eliminated their backstock of the AGP cards, hence the delay and need to ship it back to the manufacturer for repairs.
