Im looking into building a system, and I want something that will keep me content for a couple of years.
Ive been reading around, and see that quite a few people have given good reviews about the Leadtek 6600GT card.

Leadtek nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT Video Card, 128MB GDDR3, 128-Bit, DVI/TV-Out, AGP 8X, Model "A6600 GT TDH" -RETAIL $219.00 - From NewEgg.com

Is this a good card at a good price that will keep me happy for a while?

Also, how does the rest of this setup sound?

DFI "LANPARTY UT nF3 250Gb" NVIDIA nForce3 250GB Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 754 CPU -RETAIL - $109.00

AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 512k L2 Cache 64-bit Processor - OEM - $180.00

CORSAIR XMS Xtreme Memory Speed Series, Xtra-Low Latency 184-Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 w/ Heat Spreader, Model TWINX1024-3200XL - Retail - $251.00

Western Digital Raptor 36.7GB 10,000RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD360GD, OEM Drive Only - $110.00

Ive been out of the computer game for a while now, so Im a little behind the times.
Anyhow, this sound like it'll treat me well? Id like to keep it all under $1000 for the core items I have listed here.
All prices are from NewEgg.com
Any advice/opinions?

yeah i got that same card and it is definitely worth it, though if you have a little extra cash you could just get the 6800nu....it's a little more "future-proof" so-to-speak....

as for the rest of your setup, everything looks good....

i have same vid card.. or getting it thursday.. anyway your setup is sweet. make sure its overclockable.. get the msi k8n neo2 plat mobo.. thats what i have because its a very nicely made overclockable mobo

Thanks for the responses. Looks like Id have to drop an extra 100 or so to get the 6800..Which I think I will do..Got the need for speed!!
Think Ill stick with this mobo, looks like it'll do me pretty well, and Ive seen a few positive responses about it too, so ill give it a go, and see what happens, if I feel the need to upgrade to a different mobo, it shouldnt be too difficult, it seems like those are some of the cheaper parts to get.

I know a couple years back Abit use to have awsome abilities to overclock, and Ive run a few of those...But I havent seen much about them lately..

You still need a heatsink/fan combo for your processor that you listed. Don't forget that.

Ooo...get some Arctic Silver as well.

Your hard drive is also OEM so you will need the data cable for it.

Ohh..yes.
Guess that would be a good idea.
Not exactly the right forum, but what would some reccommendations be for a fan and heatsink? I currently have a copper heatsink and an 8k fan I run on my AMD Athelon 1200. I think its the Socket A....Would that work?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

You need a heatsink/fan for a 64 Bit AMD processor. Never try it, don't even say it or think it!

EDIT: Make sure the processor you are buying is a a socket 754 so that it will fit in your motherboard. Make sure the CPU is not socket 939.

If there is a BFG card then that one is the bestest.

All other 6600 GT brands are fine except for MSI... there have been several that have been Dead On Arrival.

NOOOOOOOOO!
lol ok...I wasnt thinking that anyhow...It must have been someone else...
Ill just do some looking and find a nice heatsink/fan combo.

As to the socket 754 cpu, yes. Its the correct cpu/mobo.

I ordered that card as well. Just waiting for it to come in. I can't find it anywhere in Canada!

Umm Leadtek is best, anandtek has not let me down once, so hasn't new egg.. xfx is supposed to be fastest but i hear it gets really hot.. anyway get more HD i think.. are u sure that u have enough? and socket 939 is better way to go

leadtek is a great card, get that one. and don't spend more on the 6800, don't think it's worth it for $100 more, when the 6600GT does just as well or even better in some instances. go look at reviews and benchmarks of the cards

no.

hmmm...was just asking. I haven't really had to much time on my hands to keep up with all the reviews on the new tech. that has been coming out so I am a little behind.
Also I was just asking because I was going to purchase a Chaintech, so I can build a computer for my sister.

Anyways sorry for "bothering everyone" for asking a simple yes or no question in a post that it totally relevant to what I was asking...Seems like the people that are looking at this post are either looking for info about what the topic said, or people that want to help other people that questions about that topics, but I guess this is just my opinion on things.

If someone said yes Chaintech is a better brand to get then I don't think there would be any need in going to go research everything right now and I can buy the card ASAP.
If someone said no Leadtek is better then Chaintech, then I would go research it find out what all makes it better, and put more thought into what I will want to buy.

Thanks for answering my question even though it bothered you, and "everyone else"

Seth

Well...Ive got a 20 gig Im runnin right now...was thinkin I could use that in addition to the 40 gig unit...I dont really download a lot...and only play a couple games at a time so I should be able to make it work
Tell me more about the 939 chip. or where could I read up on the benefits of it?
