Leadtek Fan too loud

I'm running a WinFast A400 TDH (Geforce 6800). It's great! But one drawback, the fan is too loud. It makes a quiet screaming sound...I'm going to pull out the card and do a more in-depth cleaning of the fan, but I have done so in the past, and it's still the loudest fan on the system.

Is there a way to mod or replace the fan to quiet it down? I really like the massive copper stock cooling...unless you can convince me that I should sacrafice it's weight for a better cooling solution on AIR.

Thanks,

nvidia BIOS has a setting for fan speeds. (most are set to 40-50% all the time)

You can use nbitor to edit your BIOS.

Though your temps might go up a little if you set a lower speed.

buy the vf700cu and replace the stock hsf. you'll get way better temps and you've got the option to run the fan on 12 or 5v depending on your aversion to noise.

If you clean it with compressed air, be careful of the fan, i broke a fin off mine with a compressor, so now i have to use ghetto cooling. Mind you, I have the 6800GT model, and I never thought it was too loud. If you don't mind doing it "ghetto", the way i have, a cheap 80mm fan will do just fine. Just jury-rig it on there with tape or zip ties, and put it on a fan controller to get the desired noise setting.

Hmm, tempting, I'll see if it really bugs me that much...Did a second sound check tonight and realized it's my CPU HSF... DOH Wrong forum to talk about that now!
