how effective is the leadtek 6800nu's hsf? i oc mine and have unlocked the vertex shader (pipes are defective) and want to make sure that it is getting well cooled. i am uncomfortable removingthe hsf, but my neighboris a comp tech, aand i'm sure he could help me apply as5 if needed. would an arctic-cooling vga cooler (isthere one for nv40?) work better?

Most Nvidia stock heatsinks are adaquate for cooling, unfortunatly if the extra pipes are defective now then there is not much chance of you getting them working. A artic cooling fan will decrease temps slightly but this will only help you to overclock it.
If your not confident replacing the heatsink then I would get someone else to do it as they can be quite tricky. Hope this helps

the nu has a smaller version of the gt and ultra hsf. it's single-space, while the gt and u are double.

Umm... the GT does use double slot cooling.

I have the GT version, and I love the temps. Around 50c/122f idle and 75c/167f ish load. The room temp is around 18c/65f. Best out there in my opinion (all copper), the shipping weight of the card is 3lbs, most of that is the card!
