Ok I might get this card it's for around 300$ at NewEgg.

Everybody knows that it has a different heatsink and cooler from other 6800GTs. What I want to know is is that LeadTek's cooler better/worse than normal cooler? Will it affect OCing or not?

And can the NV Silencer Rev5 be mounted on it?


Edit: Is it the only 6800GT that comes with a memroy heatsink?
 
It's solid cooper so more than likely, it's gonna help in OC'ing. as for the NV5, I don't see why not. And all 6800GT's have atleast something over the memory, may not be that effective but all of the heatsinks I have seen go over the memory.

P.S. that's a really tempting deal that I may bite on. :)
 
leadtek uses the same cooler for their 6800gt and their ultras. I have the leadtek 6800gt and its just a massive piece of copper, i feel its totaly awesome and I would never put a nv on it, but if you want to you can.
 
I have this card, and it's quiet and OCs well. I wouldn't bother putting a Silencer, or other aftermarket cooler in it, assuming that you're cooling with air.
 
Well little point putting a silencer because it´s quiet however there is room for improvement. I find the fan not to be adequate to cool my 6800 ULTRA. It hardly blows any air whatsoever. So if you are serious into overclocking you still have to exchange cooling. Now VGA Silencer is crap but there is better options out there.
 
I asked about the NV5 because I thought it could only be mounted on cards that have the cooler designed by Nvidia (The regular one).

So to the LeadTek 6800GT owners, what temps does it reach, and have you compared those temps to other brand 6800GTs (I mostly care about EVGA and BFG).

Edit: And if you OCed it, how far did you get?

Btw I was going to buy a used BFG 6800GT with NV5 mounted for 320$.. Do you think i'm better off with this or what?:confused:
 
I had my leadtek running at 445/1100 before it stopped working. It would hard lock and become corrupted even at stock though. The cooler is very nice, and very quiet, you will NOT hear it. I would suggest taking the filter off of the top of the heatsink, it will get clogged very quickly. You won't need an nv silencer for it unless you have case cooling problems. I have a silverstone temjin 6 case that only has an 80mm intake fan and uses the psu's fan for exhaust while the cpu is kept separated in a wind tunnel. I'm thinking of getting one for that reason. But I hear you have to lap the bastard to make it fit evenly with all of the chips... grrr... I don't think the temps got out of hand, I'm not sure exactly what they were, but it has the biggest heatsink I've seen on a gt, which is why I got it. Go buy it, right now!

Dude..They make some of the most well-built-well-constructed video cards on the market. Above BFG.


Get the Leadtek.

Yes, but were you water cooling the video card, or were you using the stock brick of copper? Your response fails to elucidate whether or not you were still using stock cooling or not, simply that at stock speeds it failed to function properly.

 
I have the Leadtek 6800GT, the first crapped out after OC 420/1200. I sent it back for a RMA and they sent back a brand new card in the retail box, but the new card will not overclock much at all. I think they have some cards locked out, it will only clock to 375/1002 stable and this card almost didnt restart after tring to push it higher. They are good cards and the customer service is outstanding. But with only a 1 year warranty, I wish I had gone for the BFG< they have a lifetime warranty.
I feel I got lucky to get a new card back from Leadtek after overclocking it, I didn't mention that to them though. :)
 
I had the card at 445/1100 with stock cooling and it the temps were fine. I think I had a crap card though. With the ultra bios or a tweaked bios you can get the ram above 1200. If I would have volt-modded to 1.5v on the gpu it probably would have gone higher. My psu isn't doing so well though, I think that had a lot do with it crapping itself. I hope they send me a good card. Will the email me when they recieve and then send out my rma'd card or should I just get it in the mail? It's been a week now and no word. *prays for a good rma*

I just rma'd my card, they are great about contacting you, I got my new card about a week after they got it, but my new card will not overclock like the first one.
 
BFG is your best bet as far as warranty goes - hands down. About 2 or three years max is all the others offer. Two years + is acceptable but I WILL NOT buy any video card with just a one year warranty.
