LCDs Safer Than CRTs?

Just wondering if LCDs put out any radiation like CRTs can? I know most CRTs are better these days, but a lot don't fully shield and spew out radiation from the sides and back. I've got toddlers that are turning into PC geeks (my 4 yr old is better than me at some games! almost). Just wondering if an LCD is better in the long run for these growing minds?

LCD's dont' emmite any kind of radiation due to the nature of how their built.

A backlight emmits light that flows through tiny crystals who's colors are changed from pulses of electricity running through them and thus your screen is formed. The radiation hazard from CRT's has been reduced to the point where its not really an issue anymore and I spend 12 hours a day on a monitor as do my associates

But either way, you must take breaks from either screen to give your eyes a chance to focus on something else and reduce eyestrain, its a common fact. No different then spending to much time on the TV.

But if your willing to pony up the cash for LCD's, go for it. Keep in mind though that LCD's still arn't great for gaming due to the slower refresh rate of the crystals compared to CRT's. This induces ghosting during fast action or movement and its really annoying. Spending $200 on a Wal-Mart LCD screen pretty much ensures this, so look at spending $800 minimum on a LCD that has lower ghosting for gaming.

Agreed, this is the biggest danger. I have Dry Eye Syndrome anyways and over usage aggravates it.

Whatever argument you want to pose, that is fine. However, the simple fact is that eyestrain for me is greatly reduced on an LCD. I have no why.... i just know there is a big difference on eyestrain between CRT and LCD. FYI i have a 19" Sony Trinitron CPD-G420s and I am looking at replacing it to a 2001FP or VP201s. I am a Programmer and spend 12+ hrs a day sometimes in front of the monitor.
