Today, I went to compusa to look at the sony HS94P/S. It looked pretty good, but they had nothing there to show me how well it did in full motion video. My question to the sales rep was 'If I don't like it, can I bring it back'. I was told that I would be charged a 15% restocking fee if I were to bring it back.

The only reason I asked was, according to the Compusa Return Policy Online they will
At CompUSA, we believe in being fair to our customers. If you are not satisfied with a product you purchased from us and you return the product with the original receipt or invoice within 21 days of purchase or invoice date, you may exchange the product or receive a refund. Items must be in new condition, with the original box, packaging, manuals, accessories, and UPC code. CompUSA will not accept the return of any item if the UPC code has been removed from the packaging.

So, what should I do? I very much want to bring it home (with every intent on keeping it) and test and make sure it is up to my standards, and I refuse to pay 15% of $600 to give it back.

well, for starters you can NOT buy from crapUSA. seriously...compusa is horrible. they are an ass about returns. it seems like some of the managers are creating their OWN return policy. i had to fight with one manager because he wanted to charge a 15% restocking fee on an unopened item (completely against their policy)...at first he refused the return completely because it was a high priced item. this was during black friday.

hm...now that monitors direct is gone, i dont know. from what i hear, that sony is really good, for an lcd. have you seen or own other lcds? if you have, i would suggest that this sony is probably on par or better for motion...since it has 12ms. but if you haven't own an lcd...i would suggest you go to a friend's hosue or somethign to check one out.

but if you want to buy from a store, make sure you open one IN the store to check for dead pixels/backlight issues.

for movies, i dont really care or notice ghosting too much though. only in games that they are obvious and bother me at times.

I'd have to agree... CompUSA is not a good place to buy an LCD. I think I remember hearing about some situations where they won't take LCDs back for screen defects period. This was regardless of whether you bought it the day before, they'd just refer you to the manufacturer. Since Sony is one of those manufacturers that usually has text printed all over the inside of the box telling you not to return it to the store but to call them instead, I would be especially wary of this. You may want to get the specific return policy and get the name of the person who quotes it to you in case you need to take it back.

I've really researched it alot, For the price, I don't think anything else can match it from what I can tell. It seems many early panels had backlight issues. I could go with the dell, I could spend 200 bucks more, but this, right now, seems very attractive. I am not really a fan of any of the resale stores, but in this case, I don't see how you could go with a non-resale store and risk at the very least, the cost of returning the package. I am going to in this armed, maybe I am ready for a confrontation anyway, nothing like calling up a VP of the company. I am also going to call Sony for their dead pixel policy, as I can't find it anywhere.

I was told by SONY that they will, and I quote, only rma a screen with a 'large number of pixels in the center of the screen'. Whoa. I may just wait and see if Samsung comes through with their 0 dead pixel policy.

spend 200 more for a dell?and you're willing to spend 600? isn't that the price of a dell? the only problem with the dell is if you are willing to go through with the returns. they WILL exchange your monitor and they WILL return you for a full refund (granted you get free shipping in the first place). that is the only reason i would recommend a dell. but this coudl take 4 plsut ries, or maybe you'll never get the "perfect" screen.

in anycase, the dell is the cheapest right now. and the quality is really good. quality control is an issue though.

honestly...avoid compusa. it just isn't worth it. maybe you can talk to the manager first and get an ok with him first. but trust me, they will screw you over. some managers will not stick to the policy on the paper. the only reason i got through is because i got really emotional (bad temper i have). and there were a lot of people behind in line returning other stuff on black friday.

maybe you're insisting on compusa because they do offer a few good deals on this particular monitor every now and then. but trust me, sometime it's worth it to spend a few more.

Get the sony from a best buy if you have one of those anywhere nearby as they were super easy to return to and can return an lcd with a single dead pixel. I wouldn't be too worried though about dead pixels with the sonys. From other reviews I've read very few people have dead pixels and if they did only one. I went through 3 of them to get a newer one with less backlighting issues and only one out of all those had one dead pixel.

To spend 200 bucks more would be for the 193P. I honestly believe all I want in an LCD is 1280x1024, and haven't really heard good things about the 1905p (dell), so I leaned on the sony. It is truly a beautiful screen, I admit that. How does dell do it if you have a return, as far as shipping costs?

I am going to try and get BestBuy to match the price, if they do that, then I'll buy it.

I bought my Samsung 243T from CompUSA. They let me exchange it 4 times until I got one I was happy with. Also, about 2 weeks ago I was in CUSA I heard the manager tell the guy working the returns counter that there is no longer a 15% restock fee for anything. Sure enough, I returned an (opened) usb drive enclosure last night and they didn't charge a restock fee.

I briefly owned the Sony HS94P/S it was a very nice monitor, just a bit small for my taste. I would recommend it to anyone. Mine had a green stuck pixel that you could see from accross the room. I also have a Sony P234 that has 5 stuck pixels that I bought from Monitorsdirect. I am working with Amex to get my money back right now. In my experience Samsungs have less stuck pixels than Sony but I have yet to see a "perfect" LCD panel.
