I was looking at an FP241VW at the store and noticed the pics came out looking very bright and sharp, but when I played a high quality mpg file, the colors were completely washed out and looked very bad. The scaling wasn't bad, but the colors just look very grayish and bleached out. The same exact file looks very clear, sharp, and colorful on a CRT. The file is mpeg, 352x288 format (not SVCD mpeg, but the lower quality VCD mpeg)

I lowered the brightness, increased the sharpness, and even put it into Photo mode, but it was to no avail. Is this a problem with LCDs, or can it be fixed by adjusting the colors and other parameters?

You need to adjust colors for video overlay. If your media player doesn't have that option (some do), then enter your GFX drivers and adjust color settings for video overlay (you don't state which GFX card you have.

The computer at the store had Vista installed. I used WMP to play the mpeg file. The other non mpeg files like WMP HD looked really good though. I'm not sure what the video card was, maybe an nvidia 6300?
