KURO owner here, so the difference between my plasma and TN panel is really noticeable. Since using a plasma for a computer screen is out of the question (the truth is, I'd be more bothered from the lack of sharpness than potential burn-in), what is the best LCD out there for good black levels?

NEC EX231Wp should have pretty nice blacks, although the LED backlit cPVA panels seem to have worse viewing angles than the older CCFL backlit panels in eg. the Eizo FS2331 mentioned above.

Any monitor that utilises *VA panel really. Good *VA monitors are not very common, the reason why I use *VA paneled 32" TV as monitor instead.

there is no comparsion between VA and plasma...
get IPS with A-TW instead. Get NEC 2490WUXi and you should be fine :)

And get worse black levels than what average TN offers which OP stated he doesnt like? Blacks on IPS are just terrible without dimming backlight.
