LCD vs CRT - I'm lost

what's funny is how much better quality the OLED's will be, as far as picture goes.

Current technology displays have a pixle pitch of what? around 0.24..... 0.294mm? (mm = milimeters)

Im currently looking at the specs of a small OLED, with a pixle pitch of 15µm or 0.015mm ................ wow, that's detail.

And your right, their life times are still around 10,000hours... some i guess are 20,000h. But that's come a long way from the origional yellow display that lasted for 5 hours ^_^.

You guys should check out FED if you get a chance, I think you'll like it and it might be a good competitor to OLED. It's more theoretical so I hesitate to put too much stock into it, but the nice thing is it can (or could) be produced on current lines.

Edit: i take that back, i found some stuff
FED= field emission display

do you know any companies that are researching this?

Looks very very impressive

~Thanks

There are a few small companies, like PixTech (who are around but under a different name now I think), and of course larger manufacturers like Sharp and Matsushita (the company that owns Panasonic). There is a bunch of info online because they are being used in hospitals and some other industrial applications (in very small sizes). The main thing holding them back from HT is a problem with the brightness declining as the display size gets larger.

Here is a half decent article on it:
