lcd vga connection question

I know there are both dvi and vga lcds and I was wondering if a vga lcd would give the same sharpness as a CRT(also vga), given I'm not buying a no name brand lcd.
 
Sharpness is more of a function of the resolution of the panel. VGA might be fine but I don't know how to compare it to a CRT. VGA and DVI are very similar on my 2001fp. Just keep in mind you probably get what you pay for in terms of picture quality.
