Can you give a little more specs on the TV or post a link to some info, that will greatly help in trying to answer your question. In short most new LCD's should be ok for gaming. One other thing, are you going to be using this for a PC display or for playing console games, or both?

It largely varies depending upon the TV in question, the game systems you will use, and the method you use to connect them.

Using regular A/V cables yes they will look horrible on an LCD TV. Component or HDMI is the way to go for the best picture quality on an LCD TV. I tried playing Zelda on my wii with regular a/v cables...I gagged at the sight of it. I refuse to play my wii until I get ahold of some component cables.

I'll get the specs on the TV from the guy selling it. However it has Componet or HDMI connections. I will also be using this as a PC and not for console gaming or applications. I have no problem connecting a Digital signal to it since the video cards i have are dual 7950gtx

I've been using my 52inch sharp aquos lcd for a couple weeks now for gaming. 8800gtx connected with a dvi to hdmi cable :) Gaming at 1920x1080 with 1080p is amazing :)

I decided to bump this thread after searching instead of making a new one, although it's quite old.

I need some of the A/V gurus on [H] to help advise me choose a TV for my bed room. It's main purpose will be console gaming, and in secondary importance: watching Blu Ray/DVDs on PS3, and outputting PC display via HDMI for PC gaming & direct streaming.

I don't want to spend a lot on a TV. To be honest, I'd rather just get something that looks great and will not give me much lag for PC/console gaming, reproduces colours quite nicely... just an all-around good TV. I'd rather spend the extra money on games or something else. Living in Canada, LCD prices are almost always more expensive than in America, and we usually get TV models 6 months later up here.

TVs I've been looking at: Mostly Samsungs. I've only heard good things about Samsungs. If there is another company offering a similar set at a better value, I would consider them.

One I was looking at was the Samsung LN40B530 (Samsung 5-Series, Rev. B)
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0770HDS0010120775&catid=

Can get it for $800 from a local store.

The other main choice I was considering was the Samsung LN40B610 (Samsung 6-Series, Rev. B)
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0770HDS0010122282&catid=

$1099.

So there is a $300 difference... is the upgrade to the 6-Series worth it? Also, is the only difference between TVs in a certain series (eg: 530, 540, 550 or 610, 630, 640, 650) the amount of ports the TV has? The panel is pretty much the same, correct?

From what I've read, it IS worth it to get the 6-series over the 5-series, especially for gaming... I was wondering what [H] thought though.

I am also interested in this topic. Thanks for reviving it.

The one thing I am concerned about for PC gaming using a LCD TV is input lag. After all, a good TV will do some very serous image analysis and preprocessing before displaying it. That translates to rediculous input lag. That's my theory anyway.

Can someone of experience shed some light on this please?

Oh... and, just to add even more interest to this thread: Imagine an IPS screen, 32", 1920 x 1080, 120 Hz, LED backlighting with local dimming. They are out there, but no-one seems to know about input lag for PC gaming. Someone has to have some insights! Chime in please!

Local dimming? Smallest I've heard of is the 42" LH90 from LG...

some brands, like Samsung, have a PC mode. on mine, it says to use HDMI 2 with a PC and to rename that input "PC". that disables all processing and color options not necessary on PC. i wouldnt say it has low input lag, but i'm very hardcore gamer and i havent noticed anything bad. i think sony's do the same

Go with one of the LG LH30 models...supposedly one of the best to use as a PC monitor (very limited amount of input lag). They also are priced nicely and have a good feature set.

The Samsungs are better TVs, but not necessarily better monitors...I have heard some say that there is a bit more input lag even with PC Mode on. (some wont notice it, some will) Samsung series (4, 5, 6, 7, 8) are more than just the inputs, they have different features (120hz, 240hz, DLNA network, bezels, matte vs. glossy screen, etc.) and different picture qualities as well. A higher series does not necessarily mean it will be a better monitor...sometimes the extra features add additional lag and undesirable effects for PC use.

Still gonna look shitty cause the Wii can only do 480p.
