I have a 32" LCD TV with an HDMI port so I got a HDMI-DVI cable and hooked it up...set the native res (which is 19x) and it looked horrible and cut off the edges of the screen. I tried several different display modes (normal, widescreen, full) and still nothing...I don't know what to do :(

does the TV have DVI?? if it does then dont use HDMI.... is it 780i/p or 1080i/p

MAG 32" LCD TV EF-SERIES...

Says in the manual the max res is 1366x768... guess im sol?
All I got lol.

ok well youre going to need to hook it up to your PC with VGA (assuming you have it, i dont know your exact model). then set the resolution to your native resolution 1360x768. HDMI doesnt support that resolution, so it will look bad.

i had the same problem with my LTV32-w6 , believe me im using the VGA connection and it looks great, the resolutions aren't all great, but depending on your viewing distance what you have should work for you, the quality difference on mine is hard to notice.

Well you were right. VGA works perfect now....too bad HDMI didn't work, I was hoping it would. Good thing I got this monster DVI-HDMI cable for $20 :D

What else can I use this cable for then?

The problem isn't the HDMI, it is that most LCD TVs seem to feed the HDMI right into the scaler, and assume a consumer type 720p or 1080i/p signal.

HDMI is just DVI with audio in one cable. But... the problem is that the manufacturers are assuming you're not going to hook a computer to that port... which is crazy if you ask me.

So, I think the solution has been identified.... you have to use the VGA in (which they call 'computer input' on most specs). Like the previous poster said, this might not be all that bad. It is sad that you can't digitally drive it pixel by pixel.... but at the kind of resolutions we're talking about, VGA will look pretty good.

I'm planning on getting a LCD soon, and I think I'm going for a computer type LCD for this reason. I intend to primarily drive it from an HTPC (MythTV computer), so I want the 1:1 native rez and DVI port. Also, I'm lucky in that under 30" is big enough for my application. Once you get above 30".... I think you pretty much are stuck with an LCD TV.

if dell started to make an LCD monitor larger than 30 inches, god help our wallets. 30" should do it if you are looking more towards high resolution gaming, but if you want a bigger screen, LCD tv's will be the only way to go for a while, which means some sacrifice in resolutions and compatibility with certain inputs. VGA does work fine with supported resolutions though. And for what i use it for (mild gaming and HD TV/ HD media), works like a charm. just do your research and pray you made a good choice :D
