LCD screen tearing?

Have you guys noticed screen tearing on LCD monitors? When I move windows around on my desktop I can notice tearing almost like vsync isn't on in a game. The effect is noticeable on both an NEC LCD1760V and a Dell 2005FPW. It's a little worse on the 2005FPW as well. I was just wondering if a little tearing is just a result of the technology or if something is wrong?

I too notice this on my 2005FPW, and the Samsung 204t I used to have. It looks especially awful when vertically scrolling in portrait mode since it looks like everything is divided into horizontal sections that are being updated at different times.

Here's an example, using a Samsung 204t in portrait mode, rotated using the included "MagicRotation" software, and scrolling a web page...

My 2005FPW does the same thing, but it's not nearly as bad.

Is this supposed to happen?
 
I feel like that can't be something caused by the monitor specifically?

EDIT: Thanks for providing a good clear picture. Up this point i hadn't really believed anyone about any 'tearing' issues. But thats undeniable. Have you tried the monitor on another computer to see if it happens on that one too?
 
You have a bad driver or a bad video card.

The "Magic Rotation" software that came with my 213T makes any of the three machines I've tried it on crash.

This isn't what I'd call tearing, BTW.
 
I agree. If it was truly the monitor, wouldn't that be much more gradual and smeared all over the place? Its too perfect.

You're probably right... the picture above was taken using Samsung's rotation software, it looks the same using Pivot Pro on the Dell.

This is what it looks like using the built-in rotation facilities of my crappy Radeon X300's driver...

The effect is different - the middle of the screen stays consistent, but there are triangular artifacts all over the right (top, literally) of the screen.

I read a few reviews for the Samsung that made a note of "an annoying right-to-left redraw or flicker not seen in landscape mode", which made me think it was the monitor's fault.

I'll try it on a different computer as soon as I can.
 
Even if it is something on your computer, its disturbing. The first reports of this that I read were on a 6600. Now you have an x300 and after some searching i've seen it on others. I'm totally convinced its driver based, but what a pain in the ass.
