I have a native res if 1600*1200 for my monitors ...i've been trying out F.E.A.R...and well it's kicking the shit out of my system.

IS there any res i can drop down to without things looks like crap?

Are you running with Soft Shadows enabled in Fear? Disabling this will make a big differance in performance ..plus disabling Vsync gives a nice boost in framerate but running without Vsync on an LCD wont look very good :(
 
You can try other resolutions at the 4:3 scale. But it won't look as good as your native.
 
yeah i'm not using soft shadows...That is one of the first things i disabled
I am not using Vsync...I usually leave that off anyways, What does it do?
 
Vsync basically puts a cap on the frame rate in perportion to whatever refresh rate you are running. I'm not sure if these numbers are right but if your running 60Hz refresh rate that'd limit the frame rate to 60FPS.

This is done to prevent "tearing" of the image when the monitor can't keep up to the frame rate.

Also if I was you i'd just try the lower resolutions and see what you think. You won't know if you don't try.

Actually v-sync has nothing to do with the monitor. The tearing is caused by video card glitches. V-sync caps the video card at a fps that it can handle without any tearing. So if you turn v-sync on it can drop your fps significantly below the refresh rate of your monitor. It's a good idea to have it off unless you have a high end system that can retain >40 fps with v-sync on. Usually tearing isn't bad enough to notice.
