I've just gotten my first LCD so I'm still learning stuff about them. A lot of time I'll walk away from my computer and was wondering what was better for the monitor, having it stay lit up a while, or having the power settings turn it off after like 5 or 10 minutes? Basically, will the lamp last longer running continuously or being turned on and off a lot?

If anything i'd set the screensaver to go off after 10 minutes, and set the power-off feature for 20-30 minutes in case i walk away and forget about it.

Neither should be a concern but burn-in would happen a lot quicker than backlight dimming/failure.

If I leave for more than 20 seconds I turn my LCD off. I've been doing this for 5 years.

Generally, the less you have it on the more power you save and the longer it lasts.

Also, a screen-saver really shouldn't be necessary. Burn in is possible on an LCD, but you have to try.
