I'm looking at buying a small LCD from the FS/FT forum, with the intention of placing it in my Latitude CPx-J laptop. It uses a parallel connection for data, and I don't see a need to change that (I'll just strip the back end down to the wires to make it easier to pass through to the rear of the laptop on the interior). My question is about power.
The LCD by default uses a desktop molex connector for power. A question to the seller reveals that the power needed is only 5v. I'm waiting on details about amps, but I do know that USB can provide 5v power. And the USB cable can also be stripped to isolate the wires that carry power and ground. The question(s):
- Is it practical to expect that I can power a 5v LCD through the USB connection?
- What, if any, additional components do I need, and what adjustments do I need to make?
Any advice is appreciated.
