LCD Problems.

Hello everyone,

Recently I've been experiancing some problems with my laptop, the LCD screen or something along the lines of that is causing alot of "Lined dots" to appear on the screen randomly when certain windows are open, it happens on just about everything besides the desktop.

I'm leaning away from LCD failure, as the dot's move with the window, meaning right now I see them n the bottom of [H], if I move this window, the dots move with it. This is VERY odd to me, any one have any clue?
 
Have you updated the Video driver or DirectX version lately?

Have you tried to raise your laptop up to get some cooling under the laptop? As laptops get older they seem to sometimes have more issues with heat that they may not have had when they were new. From what I have seen this usually happens after 4 or 5 years.
 
Video card or driver prob (hope it's not integrated otherwise you might have to replace the whole mobo :eek: ). Sounds like it has nothing to do with the lcd. To absolutely rule it out plug the laptop into a regular monitor.
 
On the BIOS screen ..do you see any Artifacts there? any sort of distortion?
 
I'm getting ready to check the bios, and will report back;
This happend after a fresh install of XP Pro(It came with Media Center, I cannot find my media center disc!) Worked fine for a few days, then boom lines.
 
Alright, bios has no Artifacts nor distortions


Oh and It's not a integrated vid card. It's a ATI 128 X600 Mobile
 
Hmm, when I try to install the latest driver via ATI's drivers site, it says it can't find a driver for my hardware/operating system.

Probably because its a mobile chip, you'll need the drivers from the notebook manufacturer.
 
Sorry for the long delay, I got the drivers updated via hp's website.

Still no go, it randomly does it on some pictures/graphics and such and on others it does nothing.

I now have a new problem.... My battery won't charge and when it's plugged in it makes a horrid high pitch sound.

/sigh
 
High pitched whining sound? Well either it is a bomb, or you have the emo brand of laptop.

Seriously, it could be the power adaptor, the power inverter on the motherboard, or something else on the motherboard. I think your laptop might be going bad. Sorry.
