I have been planning to buy an LCD for 4 Months now (Asus PW201) but the dealers are yet to get it. Today, the many different screens are changing my mind, but not quite.

The reason I have waited so long for the Asus (and still waiting) is that it's the only excellent featured wide screen monitor with the pivot feature (can tilt it vertically)

My other new options are:

Acer AL2216Wbd 22"
LG L204WT 20"
Viewsonic VX2025wm 20"
Viewsonic VX2235wm 22"
Viewsonic VX2035wm 20" (Most favorite to least)

Those new screens are really scratching my brain (the different between the old VX2025wm and the new 2035wm and 2235wm. Price wise, the new 22" viewsonic monitor is almost the same as the old VX2025wm, that means the quality of those new screens are not better than the old ones (heard a lot about TN, P-VA,...etc still don't quite get it.

Anywas, my real question is, should i stick to and wait for the PW201 because it supports pivot (vertically) or should i go to my second and third choice (Acer, LG) The reason I ask is that I read a lots of documents on my screen and the vertical alingement really helps.

Plus, I dont get those vesa wall mount thingy, does that mean I can hang a monitor on my wall vertically even if it doesn't support pivot?? If yes, then this will be my ticket there to change monitors, I gotta have a monitor which goes vertically (helps with adobe because there's a feature which can flip the documents but doesn't help with .cbr documents because they can't be flipped.

Once more thing, if the Asus supports pivot, does that mean when I flip the monitor, the whole windows desktop will also be flipped, and won't if the screen doesn't support Pivot??
 
only one thing comes to my mind when I see the word "Pivot"

and it has pictures of Ross, Rachel and Chandler going through my head

oh, and I never ever pivot my 20" lcds, because, well, it's just abnormal

I changed the stand on my L204WT (cause it was useless) to an ergotron standard stand. The stand can pivot 90 degrees.

I tried it out maybe once or twice. While its nice for word i could not get adjusted to the fact that the pixels insteal of being in a vertical maner were horizontal... This made it look funny to my eyes. ( oh i had to rotate the resolution manually through drivers)
 
Still no one told me, if a monitor supports pivot, does that mean that windows desktop changes from horizontal to vertical, or does it only mean that the stand for the screen can rotate the screen vertically.

Common sense tells me that when rotated, the desktop also goes from wide screen to.....narrow screen??? I think!!
 
Pivot and TN screens don't mix well.

TN has poor vertical viewing angles and good horizontal ones. This is not bad if used in horizontal mode, but is pretty unusable in vertical mode IMO. Many of those screens you listed are TN.

Most screens do not auto pivot the display, you will have a hot key or have to use drivers to make the change.
 
my gateway pivots, it comes with software to automatically pivot supposedly. You can also set hot keys to pivot.

both nvidia and ati should have desktop rotation options in their drivers.

I actually use the pivot to read manga but other than that, i wouldn't use it.
 
Wow, I just discovered that I can do it with my nvidia software, pretty neat.

Although I don't understand what snowdog said. If a screen looks good horizontally, shouldn't it be the same vertically since you're ony tilting the screen. I guess "pretty unusable" only applies if you're not exactly infront of the screen, which is no problem to me. Whenever I sit infront of my comp, the screen is always exactly infront of me.

I have a TN screen and it rotates. Here is why it is more of a problem vertically.

When you sit in from of your screen, you tend to nearly always be at the same height, so the up down weakness of TN doesn't matter that much. When you do move horizontally you will be fine because the horizontal performance of TN is fine. So TN is aligned for real world usage and works out pretty good.

Turn the screen vertical and now any slight move left and right shifts tone, not only that but just the space between your eyes means a different angle for each eye, which gives a kind of glare effect. Now you are using the screen with its weakest direction to where most motion occurs. It is a bad match.

I invite someone else with a TN to try it an report. If you want to use a screen in vertical orientation I would recomend against TN. I have no problem with my TN in horizontal mode, can't stand it in Vertical mode. This is not theory, I have the screen and I have tried it both ways.
 
I have the Asus PW201. I got it from Central Computers. Check them out online.
I loaded the drivers and have used the pivot feature but it does not auto adjust for me.
My friend's gateway does auto adjust but I like my glossy over his non glossy.

The monitor is great if only they get rid of the speakers and webcam.
It is a little bit of a pain to pivot also as the extra inches from the speakers tend to scuff the stand's bottom plate.

Get a Dell 24" and you can pivot to your hearts content and have a little more desktop space.
I have both and usually use my Dell. Although games and TV shows / movies do look better on the PW201.

not having any experience on LCD, Your screen sounds like it's on a drama series of it's own. "Any slight movement"...forget that, "the distance between your eyes" seems like a bit extreme to me, but no experience, so you might be true.

A post from someone with TN panel with insight about the vertical position would give me an idea weather your monitor is really bad, or whether that's the case with all monitors (hope it's not that drastic with the list of monitors I chose) BTW, what is your monitor??

Hmmm, thats a cool frenchie site you gave, i'll be sure to use it to compare many different screens. But notice when you tilt it forward is way much better than backwards.

I'm just gonna have to get a really good wall bracket. TN is best for games, so I think with the price and the size, I think I'm gonna go with it. And thanks for the warning and for the help, you helped me make my decision ;)
