Hi all,

I need a bit of help selecting a new monitor for my PC & Xbox 360.

The room that this monitor will be in is a spare box room converted to an office. I sit directly in front of the monitor with the display no further than 2ft away(computer desk with office chair). My desk measurements can take upto a 26inch LCD (32 is too big).

At first I started to look at the Dell range of PC monitors, namely the 22" & 24".

E228WFP
E2407WFP

But then when I considered the price of the E2407WFP(£450 - Auction site) I thought why not spend that on a LCD TV & maybe get a 26" that will accept PC(DVI or VGA) & 360(Component or VGA).

My questions:

1. What is best to go for in my situation ... PC monitor(smaller) or LCD TV(huge)?

2. Does a LCD TV type screen look nice from that close up (sat on computer desk)?

3. What type of screen will suit the resolutions of both the 360 & the PC, & if so what do I set the pc & 360 at?

4. Any suggestions for a LCD TV screen 23" - 26". Price around £400 mark.

If all else fails I will go for the Dell 24 as I have read nothing but praise about it, but a 26 LCD TV would get that extra WOW factor everytime i switch it on & start running around on COD3 :D

Cheers.

I'm in a similar predicament myself - i'm looking to replace my old 17" CRT with a big ass LCD in the not too distant future (just need to sort my room out first!).

I've been looking at the new Acer AL2623W which is selling for around £575 at places like overclockers.co.uk and komplett. I had initially settled on the new Samsung 226BW panel but after so much mixed opinion in that thread I decided to go bigger as it will also be used to replace the 24" Widescreeen TV in my bedroom and so far the new Acer is at the top of my shopping list.

Given a choice between the 22" and 24" Dell panels I would definately go with the 2407 - it can display higher resolutions than the 228 and has DVI/Analogue/S-Video/Composite/Component inputs giving you a lot more flexibilty when it comes to connecting other sources such as consoles, dvd and high def players. Besides if your able to get it for £450 thats a pretty good price compared to most retailers!

OK thanks drich...

I have visited my local Currys,PcWorld& Comet today to have a look at some 26" LCD TVs to see if they look bad up close. I must say SD transmision looked terrible.. but 720P looked sweet even within 1 - 2 foot upclose. A couple of units caught my attention because of the price.

LG 27LZ55 - £399
Viewsonic N2600W - £399

These both have enough conections for me to connect both 360 & PC.
With these I am getting that extra Bang for my bucks (27" will look SWEET on my desktop)
But I am still worried about sitting so close to the screen(headaches etc)?

Can anyone that owns any LCD TV panel see what it is like sitting upclose like at a computer desk. Preferably with either PC or 360 :D

If all else fails I will fall back to the Dell 2407.

Thanks.
