Hey to all you guys in the display section.

I'm looking into getting a LCD for gaming and other daily use to replace my 18.1" vis NEC FE991SB CRT monitor.(i know there is a lot of nah saying about doing just this....). For a lot of reasons i wont be able to tote/ship around a 60~70 lbs monitor every where i go in the Air Force. So i could use your(the more experienced users)help determining what make model of LCDs would fit my needs.

gaming is number one for its uses.
movie watching is auxiliary entertainment for me.
office work wont take place that often(thats what the lappy is for).

looking for something in the range of 22" to 24"

Price range: no more than 300 USD(so more than likely no quality 24" for me).

I've read through the FAQs here and else where, so i have a mid level understanding as far as refresh rates (G2G/B2W) terms and what they really mean. That 16.7 is the only option for color;). and what constitutes as ghosting and panel types.

Guess I'm asking for personal referrals from people here that are hardcore gamers that can give some advice to a newcomer about what to look for and what to avoid.

Such as; is Sceptre any good? or are they just using false numbers?

-Thanks in advance

i got the 226bw too it rocks for games. Also got mine from newegg, great store.

Commng from a CRT you are going to want something with High Color or a '92% Color Gamut". The colors on the Dell 2407 looked
washed out to me and then I saw the 3007HC. The High Color made such a difference I decided to order one.

With a $300 price range, I don't think he'll be getting a 3007.

If you can find a Viewsonic vx2025wm out there, you'll like that. Otherwise you the Samsung 226bw looks good, though you run the risk of a panel lottery.

Well the price range was to avoid people taking me to the cleaners....

Yeah i was just noticing that in order to retain a high percentage of the color gamut, thats gonna cost me a peaty coin as even the Samsung 226bw is what 72%? and my current CRT is 95%+ and i pickup on that stuff fairly well sad to say(just didn't know what it was call until now:rolleyes: ).

Seems that all my search criteria is all outta the window:mad: Oh well just means i can't buy it before i go to techschool...

And a 30"+ would mean i would need a new video card, witch means a complete upgrade path... Oh the horror!!!

No, the 2407 looks washed out because it has a PVA panel, which washes out at the slightest angle, even from a normal viewing position. IPS panels don't do that, so even a regular 3007 would look better. The only difference you should see with a wide gamut is more saturated colors. Most CRT monitors don't have a wide gamut.

Well i read some more about "high/wide gamut" and it seems to hold the most importance when talking about matching colors on the display to that of what your printer outputs. Seems like a catch 22 type thing to me, because while it may not be a big deal if it doesn't match your printers color spectrum of color, it might have the same problem with say texture maps for 3d objects. Am i understanding this correctly? That the color spectrum of say a high end printer is greater than a large percentage of displays out there?

Edit:
I ask because i don't want to have to pay a heck of a lot extra for some feature that i won't use(color print publication) but i don't know if this is going to effect the color quality when playing games, or watching movies.
