I have a 32" Westinghouse LCD TV - that I use for a monitor & TV.
- http://www.amazon.com/Westinghouse-LTV-32W1-Inch-Widescreen-LCD/dp/B0007XQ2LG

It runs 12+ hours a day... mostly @ 1280 x 768 x 75mhz - monitor.
- my apartment's usually 70-80 degrees & summer's coming.
- my monitor gets hot to the touch @ the back vent slots.

===============================================

Does anyone know of a specific solution for cooling a monitor?
- I only found one & it's very small & only has a 4-prong PC type plug.

I'm thinking of just getting a standard oscillating house fan to plug in the wall.
- I'd put it behind the monitor on a shelf that is @ the right height.

BUTT - I think sucking hot air out is better than blowing air over the vents.

For this - I think I'd get 2 small "box" type fans and hang them on the back.
- with wires (paperclips) to suck hot air out of the monitor.

Opinions?

I would think that sucking is much better...

Mel Brooks and the others were horrified when that got reversed, remember?

"What's wrong!?!"
"It's Megamaid! She's gone from suck to blow!"

Seriously though, it shouldn't make any difference which you do. As long as cooler air is moving through the vents, you should be fine.

70-80 degrees?! Oh, I forgot, that people in some countries failed to adopt newer means of measurement :)) (just joking, ok?)

That's the reason I'll buy 22" LCD max for home use. At work we have air conditioning and I still turn off the 30" HP display as often as I can and actually do my work on a smaller one, because the heat is annoying. After some time the monitor get's so hot, that holding hand on it for a few seconds is nearly painfull.

If your main concern is the temperature in your room, then there's probably no real cure. If the monitor emits heat (and I'd guess that most of that ~100W will be emitted as heat), it'll increase room temperature no matter which type of air circulation you'll use - using fans will actually help to spread the heat around your room. I have to say that I have brightness set to 100%, though.

I think we all prefer our "female fans" to suck...

BUTT - I think I want my "monitor fans" to suck too.

My main concern is - monitor longevity - not room temp.
- I only referenced room temp because it will be 95+ outside pretty soon!
- - I'll have my AC on when it's that hot - I just don't want my monitor to die young!

As a point of referance - current temp outside = 81 degrees
- temp @ 17' (feet) away from monitor - inside = 81 degrees
- temp @ hanging on back of monitor = 101 degrees - just reading forums

If I find a good fan set up - I'll take "before & after" temps & report back.

I've had monitors in far worse environments and not a one of them has died. Pretty much everything else computer-related has, aside from mice and keyboards. I'm starting to think that LCD monitors are immortal (of course, now one must die to balance the force).
