LCD as primary display

I read through the FAQ, ran a few searches and came to the conclusion that this hasn't really been addressed anywhere.

I DONT have an AA in electronic engineering. I DO have the ability to operate a soldering iron though. I've got a Philips brand portable DVD that is hosed. The LCD (7" I think) is in pristine condition though. Ultimately what I'm trying to do is use this little thing as the primary display for an basic PC used for net access at my wetbar (Loves me some webtender.com).

I figured the MOD thread was the best place for this, to see if anyone has ventured into this challenge. I'm sure pins are different and all that, but maybe theres an overall guide, I dunno. The MOD is twofold I believe: 1) rewiring the connectors from a standard vga cable to the multi-pin LCD connector and 2) powering the screen.

I'm open to ideas. Just seeing if this is even feasible.
 
I'd just buy a 7" LCD off ebay pre-wired

:) much simpler, and cheaper than ruining that portable DVD player...

EDIT: Just read it was broken, but still... I've seen 7" LCD's shipped for $30-40 on ebay... Or just find a 15-17" on craigslist for $20-40...
 
all the 7 inchers I've seen that are VGA compat are touchescreen and hardly 30 bux. Though touchscreen would be nice, its out of my budget and scope for this little project.

Any other ideas?
 
Forgive me, but where on that items feature list does it say "VGA connector/compatible"? These little cheapo screens are for video inputs, standard RCA type composite cables that do me little good unless I build my PC with video out capabilities.
 
Most video-cards have video-out capabilities... unless you plan to use onboard video...

Doesn't have VGA... I doubt any monitor that small will have VGA, the resolution isn't high enough 840 x 484 I think is what most 7" run at...

I honestly think you'd be better off on craigslist getting a cheap 15-17" LCD and maybe taking off the stand, I don't know your plans but... seems a lot easier...
