LCD adjustments apps?

I just picked up a Hanns-G HW191D Widescreen lcd (my first LCD, i'm quite impressed) and was wondering if there were any apps out there that are a must have for a widescreen LCD. (gamma adjustors, etc).

Also how would I go about getting the best picture quality out of DVD's? Should I set the screen to an Hi-Def resolution or just leave it at the native 1440x900?

On a side note Titan Quest and Company of heroes are fantastic in widescreen.

Really I would just mess with the brightness/Contrast settings yourself. Remember all that matters if you are happy, your the only one who has to look at the screen.
 
I've made a long winded post at AVSforums about how to eyeball calibrate black levels on LCDs with no equipment other than a digital camera and a graphics editing program (I used photoshop, but most decent graphics programs will work, such as the free image editor the GIMP.)
