I'm about to pull the trigger on my first LCD , a Dell 2007 wfp 20.1 but am wondering if widescreen is the way to go . I'll mainly be surfing/games with little to no movies so is it really worth it considering the actual screen size and all compared to its 19" counterpart .????
Thanks

On widescreen 16:9, 4:3 media and games will either stretch (looks quite ugly), can be resized so the top and bottom are missing or will be sat in a smaller 4:3 window in the middle of the screen.
4:3 games and vids will be bigger on the 19".
A 4:3 monitor can display everything as it should be.

As you dont watch many vids, its touch and go really.
Most here will recommend widescreen and I would like to as well if it wasnt for the few good games that arent suited to it and the seeming prospect that this situation wont improve!
There are hacks to allow most games to work in Widescreen but games like BF1942 will boot you from the server if you modify the config files.

Thanks . I presently have a KDS 19" crt so while I want an LCD I don't really want to lose any screen "real estate".
Thanks again.

20.1 is bigger then you think, pull the trigger and never look back :D

A couple of thoughts.

Keep in mind that a 19" CRT is really 18" visible. All LCDs are accurate when they quote size numbers. Also another factor in screen real estate is resolution. What res do you run your CRT at for web surfing/productivity?

The 19" LCD is 5:4 not 4:3. So even 4:3 material like old tv shows will have some black bars. (19" CRT is 4:3)

I strongly prefer regular 20" 4:3 (1.92 MP - Million pixels) over 20" WS (1.76 MP) but I am resolution junkie. 19" is only 1.3MP, I would prefer the 20" WS to this.

I just got my first lcd 20 inch widescreen yesterday, one thing I can say. Pull the trigger! Widescreen is amazing, especially dvi. I am so happy with my moniter.
