Latest on AMD vs. Intel

Sorry if this is a repeat or annoying thread, but I Just want to know:

What is the latest on the AMD vs. Intel battle?

I see a lot of Intel builds, but they seem to be much more expensive. Is there a quick reason for this? I've always had AMD, but my last build is Intel because the i5 was kicking arse when it was first released.

If this is answered in another thread somewhere pleas just let me know and delete this.

Intel just beats AMD on almost all price levels. About the only thing AMD has over Intel is the onboard GPU of the APU lineup from AMD. It's better than the Intel HD Graphics. That's about the only thing AMD has over Intel from all price points. Therefore, if you have a budget the Intel CPU in that budget is faster than an AMD CPU of the same budget.
 
Exactly. I havent had an AMD proc in a long long time. Everytime I am ready to build intel is on top and it seems to have been on top for many years now. I checked when I was building my current machine and for $230 (which was a great deal but even at current price) the 3770k destroyed anything around that price. But the same goes for the i5s and 3s.
 
Well not entirely true. AMD has the core advantage over Intel for a better price point, so if you're doing something specific that can use all the cores AMD is usually the cheaper way to go.
 
if one were to spec out an amd build and intel build with nearly identical features across the board, the amd build may come out cheaper by no more than $10-20 usd. i wouldn't build a gaming or multi media machine with anything less than an fx 8120 or an i5 2500k.

edit: if that i5 750 is at stock speed, overclock that chip. should hit 4.0ghz fairly easily without exotic cooling.
