1) this was dead a long time ago.

2) writers or lack thereof have nothing to do with this not getting made. If they wanted to make it, they'd just get other writers. Clearly they have zero intention of making HL3.

those guys must of gotten paid nicely for doing a bunch of nothing since the VR game "the lab" is the only thing valve has released since 2013.

I'm not saying the game will actually get made but the writers leaving valve has nothing to do with that. For all we know the story could already be written and they just never actually made the game. They can also hire new writers if an when they every get around to making a game. I have to agree with UnknownSouljer this was dead long before the writers started leaving.

What could possibly go wrong with a new set of writers releasing HL3... I mean, look at how well Mass Effect: Andromeda was with new writers >.>

Valve doesn't care. Half Life was there when Steam didn't exist. Now that it's here and earning them a shitload of cash, it's their new game, and you're constantly playing it.

They made half life to sell you on steam, not the other way around. After 15 years maybe it's time to accept that.

Well if I was a writer, I'd leave Valve too, not much needs writing at Valve anymore.

All the pr releases regarding steam needs writing. They can spin quite the story there as well.

In all honesty, you'd have to imagine the story was probably planned out long ago OR not at all. I'm not so sure fresh blood wouldn't be better anyway. Clearly something kept them from making it and writing might be part of it. Valve seemed pretty damned gung ho about getting it done back when they started the whole "Episodes" thing.

The only Half Life game I really enjoyed was Opposing Force. Played through Half Life, thought it was okay. But Opposing Force I liked more. Half Life 2 I started up several times, but never finished it. Tried to get into it at least 3 times. Just couldn't hold my interest enough to see it through to the end.

How far did you get?
It isn't until ravelholm (gravity gun) that it picks up, before that it's a lil eh.

I always wondered how that worked at Valve. They haven't released a narrative-focused game in a long time, so what does a write do in the mean-time?

There's no room for writers in a pure technology company. Valve no longer makes games.

It took me ages to get past the boat portion. It was so fucking monotonous. I get it, you have a cool new tech and I can throw things, WOW! Now let me play.

As mentioned about, though, once you make it to Ravelholm it gets good.

They poured everything they had into DOTA 2 and haven't heard from them since that was in 2013

2009 Left for Dead 2 came out...

I just don't get why they couldn't do game development AND Steam. It is not as if their Steam platform is going to be unchallenged in the market place forever. Having said that, it is the best platform.

And with Overwatch and Battlefield out there outside of the Steam ecosystem, you would think they would take notice.

They COULD, but WHY? Thats the question. Sure, fans want the games, but in the end they are rich beyond their wildest dreams. Where is the motivation?

You can use the "well, it should be about the games, not the money!" argument all you want, but in the end the reason people work is to become financially secure. Once you are there, it is time to sit back, relax, and enjoy life. We work towards freedom. Valve has made it.

Oh I got pretty far. Ravelholm, that was where that nut with the rifle was hanging out on roof tops, right? I got past all that. I met Alyx, had the gravity gun.

I thought ravenholm was great, and the following highway level was fan-fucking-tastic. If neither of those levels gripped you, then dunno. Guess not the game for you.

At this stage even Gordon and Alyx are sick of hanging off a cliff and probably retired, went home and writing their autobiography about the time they were hanging off the said cliff...

Guess I'll have to resort to fan fiction for the conclusion of Half Life.

Oh c'mon it's not like they replaced a bad ass military looking character (male and female) that you'd follow thru the gates of hell with gasoline underwear on with a guy that looks like a realtor and woman that looks like a mousy librarian that are hysterical when they try to talk tough...or made a story that is so convoluted that 15 hours in I'm still not sure what I'm doing.... Right? Oh God!
