Narrowed it to 4 and got the 4 cheapest prices I could find (in $AUD). Which should I get?

-NEC FE991 for $485.00
-Mitsubishi 93SB for $418.00
-Viewsonic G90F+ for $335.00
-Samsung 955DF for $394.00

I'd like to spend the least and that would mean getting the G90F+ but if the extra bit is worth it, which should I choose? The Samsung has 0.20 mm dot pitch. Not sure about the others but I hear that's good.

It's a hilarious marketing trick that gets joe blow every time.

And I just thought it was a typo (sorry about that).

FE991 if you have the money to spend, G90F+ if you don't; you make the call. All good screens, except of course the Samsung.
 
Did I screw up ordering a 1100DF from Samsung then for 442 bucks? Since its little brother is horrible and all.
 
Let it be said that there are better things out there for your money. Samsung stuff works, but avoid it if you can.
 
FE991 for in the 400's no way! i got my NEC FE991SB for 273 with shipping at the egg. its a great monitor text is tough on first look and u have to do some adjusting to get it right, but they include software in order to do that. Gaming is awesome and super crisp everything is perfect for that aspect, text is the only problem.

EDIT: didn't see that $aud dollar sign, anyway my small review still holds up, its a great monitor.

I've cancelled out the Samsung and the 93SB so it's between the FE991 and the G90F+.

The FE991 is the better one but it's $150 (AUD) more so the question is, is it worth an extra $150 over the G90F+?
 
What's the conversion rate, I'm not too savvy on such things.

At any rate, your monitor is one of the MOST IMPORTANT parts you can buy; here I would not skimp.
 
Actually, the G90F+ is $365. $335 was the older model. So it's an extra $120(USD $85).

Current conversion rates are this. (To USD as I'm assuming that's where you are)

$365(AUD) = $255(USD)
$485(AUD) = $339(USD)

Is that what you meant?

Agreed fully.

Check out www.xe.com for conversions, however economies are different so it's not always an accurate portrayal of value.

Most important thing of an CRT imho.... refresh rate. Make sure it can do at least 85hz at your resolution. For a 19", I'd use 1600x1200. So make sure it does 85Hz at least.

I'd get the Mitsubishi or the NEC... but the G90F+ isn't bad... just stay away from the 60hz Samsung rofl... it's one of their (really) low end models.
 
Was thinking about it and could it be possible that I don't need a 19" CRT if I only plan to run at 1280x1024?

I only have a FX 5900 XT and I don't think it has the power to run games at 1600x1200 so they'd probably be run at 1280x1024. Is it not worth getting a 19" then and just get a 17"?

Do you care about desktop resolution? For me, it's the desktop resolution that matters, not so much for games. 1600x1200 is just nice for huge pictures/websites :D
 
Desktop resolution doesn't worry me that much. I reckon 1600x1200 would kill my eyes being so small.

With that being said and my FX probably not capable of running games at 1600x1200, should I still get a 19" and which out of the G90F+ and the FE991?
 
In order to get a 19" that can run at 1600x1200@85hz, you must get a Mitusbishi 930SB. I have ascreen right now that can recieve this setting from the gpu, however, it is blurry as hell.

Point: 1280x1024@85hz should be the goal for a 19" CRT. If it can do that, then it is good enough. It's real hard to get better.

XP does this in games; we don't know why and aren't sure who broke it. I use a tool called refreshlock, google it (I have to when I lose it during a haphazard format). It locks in a refresh rate for each resolution and color depth for you- tedious if you use alot of them, but incredibly useful once you get it set.

As for the G90F, I'm pretty sure it will do 1280x1024@85hz. There's not telling without a real specsheet though.
 
You can fix the XP refresh thing. Go into dxdiag and check "Refresh Rate Overrides."

I forgot which tab it's in, but after you do that, games will run at higher than 60 Hz.
 
Your saying that in dxdiag, I can lock refresh rates in without using refreshlock? If so, are they def. locked or do they have to be set all the time?
 
If you override refresh rates in DirectX diagnostics (dxdiag in Start->Run), then games won't be locked at 60 Hz and can run at the refresh rate you set your monitor (or the game) to.

For example, I overrode refresh rates, and I run my monitor at 85 Hz. In games, my refresh is still 85 Hz (as reported by my monitor's control panel), and I run with Vsync too, and my framerate is around 75 - 80 (video card barely handles the settings I run at :) ).
 
Here's the real question about this: what if you run games at a separate resolution, will you have to 'initialize' your desktop at this resolution in order for the refresh rate at that resolution (being separate from your desktop, with a separate refresh rate if need be) to hold?
 
I usually don't have to initialize a different resolution and then set the refresh rate to run the game...though, most of the games I have have refresh rate settings, or I set the refresh in the config file so my monitor can use it all the time.

I use desktop of 1600x1200, and game at resolutions lower, always at 85 Hz.
 
Ok. Just got the G90F+ and checked in the advanced desktop properties and the refresh rate is set at 60Hz.

I couldn't find a way to change it in dxdiag. I looked at all the tabs but there was not option. So I just changed it in the advanced desktop properties for now and will get refreshlock later.

Anyway, in the manual, it recommends to set the G90F+ to VESA 1280x1024 @ 85Hz for the best picture quality. I'm not sure what VESA means but when I set it to 85Hz, the text goes a little blurry. Even when I set it to 75Hz, it's still a little blurry.

What's going on here? It says for the best picture to set it at 85Hz. Is it this VESA thing that's making it blurry or is there something I can do to fix it.

Also, incase I can't fix it, is it possible to run my desktop at 60Hz and then when I game, have it switch to 85Hz without manually having to do it? I don't think so but I have to ask just incase.
 
The FOV is stretched horizontally in that screen. The crosshair is OVAL. Notice the warped perspective on the screen entitled "wsdoom4."

If you play at that res, you are altering the polygonal models of the game.
