Last card you bought from ATI and Nvidia?

Last ATi card I bought was a Visiontek HD2600XT AGP.
Last nVidia card I bought was a PNY 8800GT for the family HTPC.

From 2001-2005, I bought nothing but ATi cards (AIW Radeon, 8500, 9600 Pro, AIW 9800 Pro). From then on, it has been NVIDIA (6800GT AGP, 8800GTS 640MB SLI, 8800GT). The 2600XT was a lucky clearance purchase.

I'm all about the best card for the money, so we'll see how the two companies shape up when it's time for me to upgrade my rig

how loud is it when you run it that high??

Well thats a difficult question for me to answer, and heres why: I always wear noise cancelling headphones, but on top of that, I have 2 120MM fans, 5 80MM fans and 1 90MM tornado, So my computer was, to most people, VERY loud even before I poped the X2 in there.

So with my X2's fan speed at 80% atm, to me, its not that loud at all, but I can see how to most people it may be quite loud, perhaps unbearable...

Last ATI card I owned: Radeon 8500LE

Last Nvidia card: Geforce GTX 260

Last ATI card I bought was a X1900XTX, it was loud, ran hot and consumed allot power back then but it was a good card and the last time ATI put out a really competitive single GPU based card, it's been >8800GTX>GTX280 since then.

ATI: Sapphire X850 XT Platinum Edition 3 years ago.
Nvidia: EVGA 8800GTS 512mb (G92) - Stepped up to the 9800 GX2 when it released.

Last ATI card: 4870
First and only nVidia card ever: 7800GTX I had all of one day before I returned it.

What monitor were you using?

V2400W. I did an incredible amount of troubleshooting on it, attempting to use other monitors and such, and narrowed the situation down to it ultimately being that the card hated the monitor. Even attempted multiple full reformats and installing nothing but Catalyst drivers only to have the computer boot and upon entering windows have nothing but a black screen.

Last ATI card : Radeon 9500
Last nVidia Card: 8800GS(recently for second rig)

Last ATI card: Radeon X1950 Pro 256
Last nVidia card: Geforce 8800GT 512

I was pretty happy with this upgrade back in january :)

Last ATI: 4870 x2 ... up from the previous last ATI: 4870... coincidentally, I happen to have a spare 4870 now . . . . .

Last Nvidia: a lovely BFG 6800 OC

I had never purchased an ATI card up until July of this year. I went
Orchid Voodoo 1 -> Asus TNT -> Creative TNT2 Ultra (they sent me two by accident!!) ->Asus Geforce 2 -> BFG 6800 OC

and now ATI.. hrmph. The 4870 x2 will be arriving today. Fortunately, the weather has been getting less pleasant out here, so I can just heat my apartment with it :D

ATI: 9700Pro day of the release. Then I decided I'm really not a gamer, so my laptop has some 32MB Nvidia card and I just bought a motherboard with a Nvidia 7150 integrated (mainly because it support PureVideo and was still the cheapest motherboard that seemed like it could do a decent OC).

Why do you bother overclocking if you aren't a gamer? Seems kind of pointless to me.

Photoshop, Lightroom, video editing/encoding - Medium format digial back files and HD video take a lot of processing power - There are a lot of applications that tax the CPU more than gaming.

Whoo...

I started with a 32MB All-In-Wonder, which exploded. Then a 9500PRO, which was awesome. Also exploded.

Since then it's been a BFG 5500 OC (exploded), then a 7800GTOC (sold), then an 8800GTS 320MB (sitting in my cabinet unused), then a 9800GTX.

Popular thread!

Last nVidia card: EVGA 8800GTS
Last ATI card: Asus 4850

8800GTS overclocked like crazy. Great card, and excellent dual slot cooling. Originally bought it with the intention to SLI later, but only 1 out of my 4 nVidia boards overclocked worth a crap.

I sold it and went with the 4850 to get CF and an Intel chipset. Doing some hi-def editing now that we have an AVCHD camcorder, and I need higher processor overclocks. I could never pull the OC I have now on any nVidia board I've ever had with such good temps. I'll CF a second 4850 later on.

I also wanted to support AMD's current comeback. Sometimes I like to support the underdog. ATI has earned my dollar this round. And they are making nVidia drop prices like crazy. I gotta support someone that does that, because it sure helps us consumers out a ton.

Last NVidia: EVGA 8800 GTS 640MB
Last ATI: Diamond Black Edition HD4870 512MB (Current)

Favorite Cards over the years;
Voodoo I
Voodoo II
NVidia Geforce 3 Ti
ATI 9800 Pro
ATI 1950 Pro
NVidia 8800 GTS 640MB
ATI HD4870

ati: 2600xt
nvidia: 8800gs

using them both in different rigs! aha! the ati in an amd platform, nvidia is on an intel plat.

ati: AIW 7500 in my 1st PC, my dad has it in an HTPC for movies.

Nvidia: FX5200, FX5950 Ultra, 6800GT. Now 8800GTS 512(oc'd to 700/1750+/2000).

Next card will be either GTX 260 or 280, depending on prices.

ATI: 4870 (still shipping)

NVidia: Haven't bought one yet. I tend to upgrade every two or three years, so I stuck with my 1950Pro during the 8800's reign.

Last Ati card: HD3870
Last Nvidia card: Geforce 4 TI4600......... yeah

Ati: 9800 pro (256 meg)
Nvidia: 9600GT.

Do you all remember when Nvidia came out with the 6800? That was back when I was young(er) and dumb(er). I had that bitch overnighted, the day it came out from BFG. Cost a cool 900 freakin' dollars. Oh my lord was it worth it though.

ATi - x800xt-pe and slapped a Zalman VF-700Cu on that biatch!! Ran 560/560 (all out max was 585/580) all day everyday and is in another computer as I type. Not a gaming card anymore but it does improve the perforamce of the computer its in for internet and videos.

Nvidia - 8800GTX. Current card in my rig. Plays everything very well cept Crysis but even Crysis runs much better with the overclock I'm running on the cpu. I can overclock this gtx to 628/1471/950 but I don't like to push it with EVGA's so so stock cooler.

My other |337 cards of the day. The 9800Pro and GeF4Ti4600. I am by no means a fanboy. I take the best of the best for the best price when I decide to upgrade.
