I'm going to be attending grad school next year and in anticipation of doing a lot of printing I'm thinking of upgrading to a laser printer due to the cheaper long term cost to print. I'm looking for recommendations on a good laser printer. The cheaper the better, but I am willing to pay more for a model that is cheaper to maintain in the long run (cost of toners etc). Thanks, Rob

I suggest buying a popular and successful model, USED.

The HP LaserJets of days past have served me reliably for various tasks, and toner availability and printer repairability is quite good. This means that I can take it in to any reputable repair shop and get them fixed if there are any problems. This gives me peace of mind.

Unless you've already checked, you should check with your grad school to see if they offer free printing with tuition. My grad school does.

To that end, the HP 4000, 4050, and 4100 series are very cheap used and quite easy to maintain. They were originally marketed as shared printers for small workgroups, and so will have little problem keeping up with a single user.

get on ebay and buy yourself an HP Laserjet 5L or 6L
i have two of them and just recently put a rebuild kit in both
kits are cheap and very easy to install, most printers on ebay
have already been reconditioned and are sold by dealers.
i have had both for around 6 years or more and toner is cheap
and its just a great little printer! you will not regret buying one!
