I found the reason for the LHC, to answer really important questions like this: How long would it take the LHC to defrost a pizza?
Next: speeding up defrosting a turkey still frozen on Thanksgiving Day.
i just received this from one of my CERN friends!!
live broadcast!!!
LMAO!!!!

The article does not address any of the questions I posed, but instead avoids them by making the same ridiculous claims of "certainty" such as:
If a black hole is produced under Geneva, might it swallow Switzerland and continue on a ravenous rampage until the earth is devoured?
Its a reasonable question with a definite answer: no.
The evidence presented for this "definite" answer is that Hawking's theory is 100% correct, and since it hasn't happened before, it won't happen now.
If I'm a chicken little for not letting that 100% comfort me, then so be it. Just because 100 people agree that something is impossible, it does not make it impossible. Where is the proof? There is none. If there were, we would have seen it by now, instead of incessant assurances that they have 'definite' answers that include no conclusive evidence.
Too bad you stopped reading there. Right after:The article does not address any of the questions I posed, but instead avoids them by making the same ridiculous claims of "certainty" such as:

Work that made Stephen Hawking famous establishes that tiny black holes would disintegrate in a minuscule fraction of a second, long enough for physicists to reap the benefits of having produced them, but short enough to avoid their wreacking any havoc.
Even so, some have worried further that maybe Dr. Hawking was wrong and such black holes dont disintegrate. Are we willing to bet the fate of the planet on an untested insight? And that question takes us to the crux of the matter: the collisions at the Large Hadron Collider have never before occurred under laboratory settings, but theyve been taking place throughout the universe even here on earth for billions of years.
Cosmic rays particles wafting through space constantly rain down on the earth, the other planets and the wealth of stars scattered throughout the galaxy, with energies far in excess of those attainable by the Large Hadron Collider. And since these more powerful collisions havent resulted in astrophysical calamities, the colliders comparatively tame collisions most assuredly wont either.

Yes, I read the whole article, thanks.
Here are the quotes with the words the author should have used if he wanted to be truthful:
The crux of my concern is twofold:
1.) Hawking radiation and black hole evaporation are posits of a theory, and unproven. If incorrect, a stable singularity could result. Even if Hawking is 100% right, the interaction between a singularity and solar neutrinos/dark matter that is all around us (according to theory) is unknown, and itself may allow the singularity to grow despite losses due to Hawking radiation.
2.) Stable singularities may be created all the time in the upper atmosphere, but would in all cases have velocities approaching half the speed of light, and would be out of contact with the planet immediately. A stable singularity with zero or low velocity relative to the earth or sun would be something that has NOT been created in nature by any process, period.
Interesting that you don't hold yourself to the same standard.Yes, I read the whole article, thanks.

Another thing to consider.
Who says a singularity would be tethered to earths gravity? Perhaps another force would act upon it, or it would stay stationary in its XYZ coordinates in space, while Earth and the Sun are in constant motion. Perhaps the Micro Singularity, if it persists will simply cut a atom thin hole through the planet as it escapes, causing no damage at all.
Thats the whole problem with every sci-fi show ever created that deals with things like time travel too. The Earths XYZ is NEVER in the same place for more than a fraction of a second, the entire planet rotates, revolves around the sun, the Solar System itself is Revolving around the galactic core and the galaxy its self is in motion through stellar drift.
a microsingularity would be pulled to the center of the earth if created here. it is unlikely to run into any matter, as even in solid matter there is enormous amunts of free space. so it would sit at the center, and very slowly grow as it runs into atomic particles by chance
obviously, over time, this could become a bit of an issue.
Maybe all those micro singularities actually are the dark matter?
Heres an Idea..
Maybe all of those High energy Particle Collisions with the upper atmosphere every day DO create micro singularities that get pulled to the center of the Earth.. Giving us our gravity well?
Maybe all those micro singularities actually are the dark matter?
That's what the "solid Earth" people want you to believe!and our gravity well is created by the mass of the planet.
