Hey. I'm on my Garandfather's PC have a real hard time getting the text sizes in browsers to get bigger at 1280 x 1024, which is the native resolution of LCDs. I set the DPI higher in windows, but that doesn’t effect browsers, stupidly. I can try increasing the text size in the browser, but that doesn’t work on all sites. There are loose ends everywhere with tiny print! Why didn't MS make the screen size scale better!!? This is ridicules! I've been trying for hours to get every thing to display right, but XP refuses to co-operate! What's the easiest way to get stuff to work?

Actually, I don't think that's an MS problem. Some webmasters are control freaks that want "their" page to look "just so", so they code fonts to specific pixel sizes that don't scale according to IE's small/medium/large settings. Unfortunately, these anal retentive types rarely look at their site with anything but their own settings/resolution and basically don't give a crap about how it looks to someone else using different options. Not very user friendly. :(

Go into Tools > Internet Options > General > Accessibility (lower right corner). Check "Ignore font sizes specified on web pages". You may have to restart IE or even reboot for the change to take effect, not sure. I think that'll do it for you. Post back and let us know.

And xxtremeguyxx2001, Firefox is not the be-all and end-all to everyone's browser issues. It's his grandfather's comp. Maybe gramps likes IE and doesn't want him installing other stuff. ;)
 
Wow, it works Lethal!

I used to using Opera and it's very easy to use the +/- keys to increase the text size, but using the "small, medium, large" settings in IE didn't work.

Now it does, and my mom can read the screen again!
 
just hold down "ctrl" and roll your mouse wheel to change the font size on webpages.

My eyes aren't what they used to be, have always been very nearsighted, and I like to sit a good arm's length from my 17" CRT. I bumped up font sizes in XP, and figured this out for IE because even at 1024x768, some text was still too small.

Yes, Ctrl/mouse scroll will adjust font sizes, but it doesn't work if they're "hard coded" by pixel size. I'd like to give a big middle finger to people who do that, they show absolutely no consideration for anyone whose vision is less than theirs.

An example I came across today was the Saturn site They've done all this fancy flash crap set to 760 wide (didn't even make it center horizontally, it sits in the upper left corner for me) with text I had to lean forward and squint to read at my rez. Unfortunately, I don't think there's anything you can do about font sizes within a flash file. :(
 
I do use Firefox, and it dosn't always seem to work... Other apps wouldn't either... :confused:

I cuold be wrong but I think that when computer first came out everyone was using just crts and resolutions didn't go that high. Everyone designed websites specifically for use with a crt. If the text was too small then you could just lower the resolution and make the text larger. Years later lcds come out and you're forced to use the monitor at it's native resolution (which for some people makes the text too small), Although I agree MS should increase the scale size
