I started one of my systems on the large work units. I was wondering why this option is available and is it benificial? Is this helping the research more than doing normal units do?

Yes it is a benefit to both F@H and you.....the large WU get a high point value and a bonus!
This is due to the fact that they want these WU returned quickly. It also can use a lot of resources to get the work done hence the bonus points.

Obviously it’s only more beneficial on the really fast machines. Taking to long for the work units to return doesn’t help the cause and will cost you points.

so EM3 reports it as a 241 pointer. How is the bonus figured? I am only running them on a 2.4 GHz and a 3.6 GHz system at this time.

Thanks,

The bonus is a 100% increase in Points per Hour.
I'm sorry to say that the 241 pointer is probably a Tinker and unless its running on an AMD boxen, it will run slow.

There is only two ways of working out if you have a big protien or not.

Either work out how many Points per Hour per Ghz the protien is giving you.
If its in the range 1.6 - 2.6 then its a small one.
If its in the range 3.2 - 5+ then its a big one.

Or workout the Points/Deadline from http://vspx27.stanford.edu/psummary.html
If its around 5 then its a small Protien
If its around 10 then its a big one.

Luck.............. :D
