I am searching for a new mouse. Most mice that I come across are way too small. I only like wired mice. I guess modern mice just plug into USB 1.0?
I don't game, just use the computer for basic stuff, plus virtual machines.
The frustration that I have is that 1) I buy a mouse and the mouse lasts a short while; I guestimate 3 years; 2) when I look to replace with the exact same model, I learn that the model is discontinued; 3) it's tough to search for mice of a certain size. Not many websites let you screen by dimensions. And that is, if the retailer even publishes the dimensions.
I run linux so there can be an additional issue with compatibility. However, I don't worry about the extra buttons on the mouse so it's not much of an issue. But still, it's annoying that I might not have the functionality and it's tough to shop based on the functionality. A lot of manufacturers wont ever say that there is Linux support.
I guess I should find a mouse that I like and then buy several such models?
Edit:
A mouse that's easy to clean and/or durable might last longer. I think it would be easier to clean a mouse if can disassemble.
So, priorities (in no particular order):
1) large
2) manufacturer that keeps producing said model or clearly identifies the successor product and key differences
3) USB
4) easy to clean and durable, thus extending the expected life
5) reasonably compatible and simple with Linux
