I'm looking at buying a new monitor but havn't had a new one for quite a while now, so I really need some help deciding what to get. My current monitor is the Iiyma Vision Master Pro 454, which is a 19" CRT with a resolution upto 2048 1536.

I'm looking for 3 main traits in any monitor I buy:

1) HDCP support since I'm using a 7950GX2 this is good planning ahead
2) fast response time, as this will be used for gaming.
3) Widescreen, as I want to use this to watch TV, Movies and other media.

lastly I'd like to add that I'm in the UK and so I'm looking for something that is available in the UK today, delivery from outside the US is too expensive.

Im looking for 20"+ I'd like to goto 24" but I fear it will become quite expensive, so if there's any decent 23" or 22" monitors I would probably consider them over anything else.

So I guess what I should asking is, who make the best large pannel monitors for gaming? I've so far been recommended apple who make a nice 23" flat screen but this is just way too expensive. Iiyama have a new 22" monitor out this month with a 5ms response time but I can't find that anywhere yet, or the price.

I've sene a lot of people going on about the dell monitors but i've also read that they've got banding problems?

So if anyone could recommend some makes or even some models I'm sure it would speed up my search.

So far these looks quite good

Acer AL2216W 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor (£281.99 Including VAT)
- 1680 x 1050 (WSXGA) Optimum Resolution
- 16.2 Million Colours
- 700:1 Contrast Ratio
- 5ms Response Time
- 300 cd/m2 Brightness

Bit worried about the contrast ratio on this one, also I would probably prefer a better resolution.

Belinea 2225S1W 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor (£234.99 Including VAT)
- 1680 x 1050 (WUXGA) Optimum Resolution
- 16.2 Million Colours
- 1000:1 Contrast Ratio
- 5ms Response Time
- 300 cd/m2 Brightness

This looks like a great monitor for the price, if I could find a monitor with these specs but with a slightly higher resolution I'd be set.

Dell Ultrasharp 2007WFP 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor (£352.49 Including VAT)
- 1680 x 1050 Optimum Resolution
- 16.7 Million Colours
- 800:1 Contrast Ratio
- 16ms Response Time
- 300 cd/m2 Brightness
- One DVI-D Input w/HDCP Support

HDCP support is nice but the size is only 20" which is only 1" more than what I'm already using, which doesn't make for a big upgrade.

Samsung SM-225BW 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor(£328.99 Including VAT)
- Viewable Area: 22” Widescreen (1680x1050 Resolution)
- Interface: Analog / Digital
- Response Time: 5ms
- 16.7M Colours
- Contrast Ratio: 700:1
- Viewing Angle (H/V): 160°/ 160°
- Brightness: 280cd/m2

Again a lower contract ratio than most which is worrying, and again a slightly higher resolution would be nice

Viewsonic VX2235wm 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor (£334.86 Including VAT )
- 1680 x 1050 (WSXGA) Optimum Resolution
- 16.2 Million Colours
- 700:1 Contrast Ratio
- 5ms Response Time
- 280 cd/m2 Brightness
- One Analogue Input
- One DVI Input
- Built-In Rear Speakers

Don't want speakers in the monitor as I have a decent sound set up, again the contrast ratio is lower that most.

The Dell 2407 is a great monitor for gaming, especially for the price. I love having all the inputs, and I actually use them. The image quality is fine, and the newer revisions don't have the banding problem.

There aren't really that many *affordable* widescreen monitors with HDCP support yet, but I have had no problems with several Dell monitors for gaming.

HDCP would be nice but is not necessary, If it's going to cost a LOT more to get that support then forget about it :)

Theres a new Iiyama 22" widescreen LCD out next month (nov) 1000:1 with 1680x1050 res, looks nice, I think I might just wait for that
