How much of an improvement going from a 6950 to a 660 ti? BF3 is my main game. Specs are 4.4ghz 2500k 128gb ssd 16gb ram 2304x1440 fw900. Buddy trying to sell it for a very good price and my 6950 just went poof.

Its a decent upgrade if you can get it for a good price. Don't expect a 50% jump in performance though, its not that much faster.

will you see gains? yes. a huge jump in FPS... no. The biggest thing you will see is how smooth the game is. My friend just made this jump and it was a night and difference in the "polish" i guess you can say.

There's been a recent trend in digital download deals and I've been snatching them up. Games like sleeping dogs, crysis 3, etc....I'm thinking I might as well get the card.

I'd have kept the 6950 and unlocked to 6970 but since it's dead... grab that 660ti. It would be about a 15 to 20% upgrade in gaming performance, 50% upgrade in terms of power consumption/cooling. Something like that.

its a reference card? on the reference card the increase will be noticeable large jump as BF3 runs flawless on NVIDIA cards.. if are a oc'd card the increase will be still better on general games.. according to Anandtech at 1920x1200 ultra high presets x4MSAA 6950= 32.4FPS reference 660ti = 52.9FPS. at 1920x1200 ultra high with FXAA 6950= 48.8FPS, Reference 660ti=81.7FPS and even at 2560x1600 ultra with FXAA reference 660ti perform 53.9FPS that are still very playable

i let you the link to make others comparison:

overall its about a 40-50% improvement in gaming. for BF3 is probably closer to 60% since that game does better than most games on kepler.

Yeah its pretty faster than the 660Ti.. In fact should be compared more to the 670..
stock 660ti to stock 7950 are still about dead even at 1920. once you oc both then the 7950 easily pulls away overall though.

Can you shader unlock and oc to 6970 speeds? You will get a tangible performance gain from this.

If you get a 660ti, make sure to get the MSI Power Edition or similar. Benchmarks put the performance roughly with a stock GTX670.

lol then all you have ot do is oc the 670 to blow right by it. the difference between the 670 and 660ti is much greater than between the 670 and 680. clock for clock the 670 is 15% faster than the 660ti where as the 680 is only 3-4% faster than the 680 clock for clock.

Yeah but looking more in the stairway line of AMD first is 7970, second 7950 and third 7870, in NVIDIA 680 then 670 then 660.. And the 660TI perform very well the space between the 660 and 670 that was make possible to be compared in a line between the 7870 and 7950.. That just remind me the long line in 650-650ti-650ti boost and 660. That are much card to be compared vs 7750 and 7870

^This +1. A moderated OC'd 670.. +/-1150mhz just blow off the 660TI..
