Hey guys, how do i change what programs start up automatically when i sign in? Also when i let my brother borrow my lappy he somehow disabled the taskmanager and i dont know how to get it turned back on

msconfig. Put it in the run dialog. As for the Taskmanager thing... I have no idea what you're talking about. CTRL-ALT-DELETE and click start taskmanager.

When i Press ctrl, alt, del. it says "Taskmanager has been disabled by your computer administrator"

My acc. is the Admin. I just dont know how to enable it back. I Still dont know it got disabled in the first place.

I see a taskman and a taskmgr. I clicked on both the first did nothing and when i clicked on taskmgr, it says" task manager has been disabled by your computer admin"

Hive: HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Key: Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
Name: DisableTaskMgr
Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 1=Enable this key, that is DISABLE TaskManager
Value: 0=Disable this key, that is Don't Disable, Enable TaskManager
(you obviously want Value 0, to enable TaskManager.

As part of the enhanced management available in Windows 2000 and Windows XP, rather than risking a registry change, as an administrator you can enable or disable Windows 2000 Pro or Windows XP Pro's TaskManager using Group Policy Editor. This can be applied to the local policy. Note: if you are trying to override your organizations group policy, you can't. As soon as you re-authenticate to the domain, the domain or OU Group Policy will rewrite the registry setting. But if the TaskManager was accidently disabled or you need to control this item for a set of standalone boxes this is for you:

Regedit is your friend. So is Google.

Im confused as i have XP home and not Pro. I tried google and i clicked the first website followed the steps but got nowhere

START > RUN > type "regedit" press enter.

Look on the left. There is like a directory tree. Navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
(click on the things like folders so they open up in that order, going deeper in to the directory tree)

Find the entry in the last folder you open (it will show up on the right) that's called "DisableTaskMgr" and double-click on it.

The value should be "1", as it is disabled. Change it to "0".

Close regedit and restart your computer. You should then be able to get to the TaskManager normally.

When i try to attempt to change registry, it says" registry edit has been disabled my your computer Admin" Im thinking that this is a virus or adaware. What Free program can i use to chack this out

allrighty then virus was removied and into registry. Task manager back up thanks. Can close thread

If you have a real version of windows (read not pirated), if you install WGA you get a spyware checker/removal. Google trend micro for a free, easy online virus scanner.
