laptop won't recognize usb mice?

Once again I have a head scratcher... My USB mice won't work with my laptop all of the sudden. They used to work fine, and I haven't installed anything on it recently. Now when I plug them in I get the "device not recognized" error from windows, and updating drivers won't work. I try a USB flash drive in the same port and it works fine.

Any ideas?
