yeah i said it. impossible? maybe. i just purchased a replacement "lid" for my Toshiba Satellite A75-S209. plans are to modify the lid so a window mod can grace its presence in all its plexi-wonder.

Pros?

Cons?

has anyone tried this before.. i did a forum search and came up with nothing.. and before you start flaming me i also went through the FAQ to make sure i wasnt breaking any of the "golden rules" of posting... thanks for the help in advance.

But all you'll see is the back of the LCD, right? Or are we talking about the bezel around the keyboard? Even then, there's so much metal cladding that all you'll see is bare metal. Or are we talking about the underside? Putting a window there would be ummm, different.

its a common mod for laptops, by cutting a hole in the back of the LCD you can use some of the light from the LCD's backlight to light up a design/window on the lid of the laptop.

It looks realy cool if done right :D

instead of a backlit lighted apple logo, maybe an AMD one instead??!!

its a common mod? wish i could find one.. links please! anything to help give me more ideas.

as for whats going to be seen.. there is a *foil* between the casing and the backside of the LCD. i was thinking of getting an etching for the plexi or figuring out a way to get a backlight up there. im no modding expert so yeah. as for the amd logo.. might not go over so well since the toshiba is an intel p4 :p but the idea *is* good.

that metal film is a grounding film. i would not reccomend cutting that out. but it can be done without effecting the ground. just make sure you leave some of it on there. one thing you need to remember is that doing this will void the warranty. but if you wanted to. you should remove the whole lcd and separate the top cover, then cut whatever window size. remember to keep some foil there. its going to need to be extremely thin acrylic or plexi because there isnt very much room back there. but apply the plexi with some epoxy or some acrylic glue stuff. but the only kind of backlight that is going to fit in there would be some leds. just find a place on the motherboard that gets the correct voltage you need and solder a lead wire onto that and run the wire up where the hinges are. but fitting the leds in there will eb tough. cause like i said, there isnt too much room there.

hope this helps. i can only give you ideas because i have replaced tons of lcds in toshibas.
