What can it be beneficial for? Besides viewing DVDs in widescreen? Aren't games stretched with widescreen?

some games are actually designed for widescreen playability so you actually see more of the environment (hl2, ut).

hella huge screen area for browsing the web. You can literally fit 2 hard ocp pages side by side with them both fully viewable on this thing, and have room to spare........ Mine is the 9300 with 1900x1200 widescreen res.

this is not MY desktop but it is someone's running @ this same 1900x1200 res posted @ deviantart

It took me some time getting used to WS in CS but it works out fine. I like how I can have numerous windows open and there's more space.

yeah, my fam picked up the 9200... right before the 9300 came out... and its only like a month old... it rocks faces.. and you better have 2 pages open right next to each other... or theirs a lot of blank space lol

wow.
"there" is usually the spelling used if its used incorrectly...
"there is" or "there's" I think is what you meant. I dont know who is possessing what the way you used it...

Bet you get all the chicks.

I would have to agree that widescreen works well........ I was a skeptic when I first got my XPS2, but after working on something that required two browser windows open at the same time, I was hooked. :)

Guild Wars looks nice in widescreen too...... so I'm really happy.

Widescreen is (I believe, anyway) inherently better than 4:3 or 5:4 because the wide aspect ratio is more naturally suited to the human field of vision. Also, more horizontal space on a screen tends to be more useful than more vertical space (unless you're running the Chinese version of Windows XP, perhaps :p). This is one reason that widescreen is used for movies; most of the action takes place on a horizontal plane (people walking on a floor, for example).

Remember those old Pontiac Grand Prix Commercials?

Wider is better

You do realize that laptops are meant for more than DVDs and games, right? You know, like productive activities? I'm the most productive when I multitask and run several applications at once. Having them all in front of me on the same screen, as would be the case for a wide-aspect LCD, makes me more productive.

widescreen is the best thing that will ever happen to you. (it almost beats out sex ;) :p )

anyways, stupid jokes aside, definately look into a widescreen. theyre awesome. and even if some games stretch, its not very noticable, or at least i dont think so.

heres a pic of my desktop for you to drool over (1 17" wide and 1 17" standard LCD = 2720x1024px):
