I'm actually posting for a friend, but at the same time I myself need to update my knowledge bank since I'm gonna be working at a computer store soon. Anyhow, two laptops, same exact price. Links as follows:

Simply saying which would be better will suffice, saying why will very much be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Note: Battery life is not an issue, I'm looking for purely performance based responses. It's not going to be used on the go much at all so its a non-issue.
 
Asus probably better deal overall for performance. GTX 260M >> GT 230M for gaming. For CPU related stuff, it'll be closer. HP is a core i7 but it's clocked a bit lower so they might end up finishing closer. For normal usage, if it's not going to be replaced by an SSD, the hard drive on the Asus is slightly faster because of the higher platter density.

I'm too lazy to research the quality of the LED displays, but that might be another consideration.
