Laptop sound problem

Hello everyone, this is my first message here!

I have an small but annoying problem with my laptop's sound. When I plug headphones in, sound keeps coming out of the laptop's small speakers (they would normally stop playing). This isn't anything really bad, but would be great to fix.

It worked fine for about 3-4 months after I bought the laptop, but a week ago it started doing the thing I described earlier.

Information

Laptop model: Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo A1630
(Specs: AMD A64 3000+, Radeon 9700Pro, 1024Mb DDR333)
Sound card: Realtek Audio AC97
Headphones: Sony MDR-CD380
Operating system: Windows XP Personal

My laptop has 3 ports for audio in front of it: One that reads SPDIF OUT, one which has a picture of some weird waves, and one with a picture of a microphone. I have used the port SPDIF OUT for speakers/headphones before (well, it's the only one that works as output).

I tried downloading the latest drivers for my audio card, but that didn't solve the problem. Next, I tried to change the card's settings (in software), and found a tab which says S/PDIF-out. Maybe this would help? It has the settings "No output", "Output digital only" (selected), and "Output digital and analog". Could someone tell me what do these do? Also, there is a "Speaker configuration"-tab, which looks like this:

If I press the Line In or Mic In-buttons, they chance to "Rear Speaker Out", or to "Center/Subwoofer Speaker Out". Could I do anything helpful here?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and feel free to ask anything I forgot! And sorry for the stupid question, but I'm a newbie

Not sure, but the "Synchronize the phonejack switch with the speakers settings" option looks promising.

The only thing i can think of at the moment, is that you may have disabled a program from Windows Startup which would normally kill the sound to the speakers once a headphone was detected in the Audio Out port.

Have you disabled any programs from Startup? If not, it must be something with the AC97 sound settings.

As always, those settings your showing are hard to find out what they do without being right at your laptop. Sometimes just fooling around and using common senes can help (and if it does'nt work, just set them to the settings you previously had).

i had that same screen on my computer once. try making the blue on an "out" and pluggin into there. if that dont work, just try all the combonations

If I press it with "Headphone" setting in the No. of Speakers enabled, nothing happends. Howewer, if I select "6 channel mode for 5.1 speaker output", the blue one turns to "Rear Speaker Out" and the red one to "Center/Subwoofer Speaker Out". This settings seems to do only that, and nothing else.

I've tried almost everything I could think about - like trying to lower every switch in Volume Control incase it would turn the front speakers off, all the useful looking settings in Sound and Audio devices and in my sound card's settings.

I've tried that, and every combination. If I make the blue to "Out", and plug into there I can't hear anything in my headphones but the front speakers keep playing.
