Laptop screens question...

Long story short, trying to find a place to order, replacement laptop screens. One day a friends laptop was sitting on a table and a friend had their elbow on it? and leaned across the table to grab something?? and it spidered the screen like a baseball hitting a window??? I don't know, I'm just the messenger. I was kind of amused someone could be that stupid to put that kind of weight on a laptop, but whatever.

Does anyone know where or what companies to go through to find replacement screens? Any direction you can give is appreciated, thank you!

Ebay is pretty good for this sort of thing if you're somewhat technically savvy. Depending on model, age, etc however your friend may well be better off spending a few more dollars and picking up a new machine. A new LCD (just the panel, no plastic casing, hinges, inverter or anything) can easily run $200+. There are other places too, if you don't want to deal with Ebay. Google is your friend.

Yeah I agree about the google thing, and my first response was what you said about picking up a new machine, but you know how some people won't get it as much as you beat it in their head they're stuck on their original idea being the perfect solution? That's them. So they're set on a new screen, period.

I'm pretty computer savvy, but I'm unfamiliar with with companies outside of the norm, like newegg, tiger, etc. So when I hit up google and find places that sell what I'm looking for I can't seem to find reviews about the company like on resellerratings, etc. So I guess I'm on the forums looking for people who know of a reputable place to order a replacement screen from.

Sorry if my responses are a little jumbled, pressed for time while I'm at work! (tisk tisk)

EDIT: BTW, thanks for the fast response, appreciate it.

Just an update for anyone who may come across this situation in the future. I contacted a couple companies and all of them had replacement screens for somewhere in the ballpark of 225-275 dollars. The exact same screen (same model number), I found on e-Bay by numerous retailers for 60 dollars...

I found that to be an abnormally large difference even for e-Bay. So they're going with that, I'll let ya know how it goes, and if they wind up with a chinchilla wrapped in Saran Wrap from the neck down, smoking a cigar, instead of a laptop screen. (I don't know, that's the first thing that popped in my head, scary I know.)

Make sure that you're buying the same screen before ordering; for example, my old laptop, an ASUS Z71V has 3 different panels that are the same physical size available -- a 1280xsomething, a 1680x1050, and a 1920x1200.

Pull the panel from the case and just look at the manufacturer's part number. My laptop had an LG Philips panel that was used in Compaq/HP/Toshiba/Lenovo laptops, I just bought the cheapest on ebay(used but pristine, $28 shipped) and it works great. My Compaq has a screen that started life in a Lenovo.
