I purchased this Laptop for $699. Was this a good deal and how does it compare to a Turion ML-32 equipped the same and priced at $799?

Yes, you may transport with the battery in...I don't think I've ever really taken the battery OUT of mine.

As far as cases go...guess it depends on what type of traveling you do. I have this one:

It has plenty of room for everything I need and is very comfortable. I am also very active so only a backpack solution would work for me...
