Laptop question

Just acquired a used Dell e1505 Core Duo laptop. It has a 1.66 GHz T2300 w/ 2MB of cache and 2 Gigs of Ram. Will this thing fold using the SMP core or might that be too much to ask of it? It would be used strictly for folding.

I'd run 2 single clients with the CPU turned down to 90%. That should keep your lappy happy.

That definitely seems like it would miss deadlines on SMP. 2 of the single clients is your best bet and keep the back of it propped up with a book or something at least to keep it from overheating. Maybe get one of those laptop cooling pads for it alternatively.

With my P4 Toshiba lappy I found that setting it up on a pair of pencils raised it sufficiently
to improve airflow and reduce fan speed needed to keep it cool. Unfortunately, the points one
gets on the regular cpu client are paltry. But, each WU helps.

I can run SMP on T2700s but just barely under the time limits.

That's what I was about to say. I have a dual core AMD Laptop that is 1.8ghz, and it does the SMP blocks before the deadline. It might be CLOSE on yours though, but it should do it. Use FAHmon to check on the time it will take. If it's beyond the limit, then obviously dual regular clients are your only choice.

Well, I've got it running one single client as of right now. As soon as I get the memory I ordered, I'll stick another client on there. As for heating issues, I've got it sitting on a wire shelf, so that should be no problem. Seems to be running the one client fairly fast, but that may just be the current wu. May wind up selling it to upgrade another boxen or two instead...
