The Asus eeepc 1005HA looks nice and all, but I'm not sure about notebooks. Heres why: I'm currently using a Gateway 3550GH (centrino 1.7ghz, 512mb, winxp) and the performance is atrocious. I'm not sure if its because theres just too many things running in background (its not my computer I can't do a clean install) or because centrino cpus just plain suck.

The thing takes like ~5min to boot and be ready to be usable, launching msn is ridiculous, and opening the main msn windows freeze the laptop for like 10-20sec. Sometimes I open a link on another IE window and again it almost freeze for 10sec.. I really HATE it and I fear that this is going to be the same on most notebook.

Now, about laptop. I tried the Acer Aspire 5738Z and that was great. Vista ran flawlessly and I was also impress by the price/features. So far I could find any other laptop at the same price with the same features/config. (also had HDMI)

So, does notebook have all the same craptastic performence than I'm currently experiencing with a few years old laptop?

and

Can I find a better laptop at same or lower price than that acer?

I also forgot to mention that I dont care about battery life and graphics card, I dont travel much and this is going to stay home 99% of the time and I wont play video games on this. basically, I want flawless win7 permormence (no freezing 10sec when opening explorer) hdmi if possible, 2GB min, led lcd, 15" max and good keyboard.

Any of the cheaply priced c2duo laptop deals that get posted on SD will do for accomplishing this task my friend.

Posted on SD? This is the acer I was talking about http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?webid=798401&CatIds=73,74,75,4488&AffixedCode=WW so far its the best ive seen price/features

slickdeals... deals website. I'm not familiar with pricing or anything in Canada, so I am sure there are more knowledgeable people in that department. I did look at the specs for the acer and it will be fine for what you discussed. BUT I think you can find much better deals (at least stateside).. so im not sure. I couldn't see what price they had for the Acer because it was set to show your postal code area.

I got an eee pc 1000HE and I like it, whats the main difference between this and the 1005HA ? Worth the upgrade?

That laptop shouldn't be running that bad. I wouldn't mind still having my old HP with it's Athlon 64, it was sluggish booting and opening apps but that was mostly due to an small/slow hdd.

I have no clue about the actual benchmarks, but I would imagine if you were able to do a fresh install on your current machine it would feel about the same as a netbook. If it has an older drive like my HP the netbook may feel a bit snappier even.

Pretty much any laptop you can buy will meet your requirements. Pick a form factor and a price and find one that meets those.
Or just use the 1000he and save your money. The HA has longer battery life... if you can find the right version.
