I've been folding for about 4 days now and want to see if there is a better way to do it on my system. My computer is a Dell Precision m4400 with a C2D P8700 (2.54 GHz), 4 GB RAM, and a Quadro FX 770M (I believe it's 512 RAM on it). For now I run the "classic" client (console) at all times, and switch on the GPU client (systray version since I don't know a way to pause console besides closing it) whenever I'm not using my computer (e.g. overnight). This is because the CPU client has little to no impact on my system's performance but the GPU client absolutely destroys it and even causes my cursor to start skipping. I've put out about 600 points each of the last four days by doing this.
How much of an impact would running the SMP client have on my system performance while I am using it? Is there another option that I could use that wouldn't necessarily compromise system performance?
UPDATE: For some reason dxdiag and device manager are now both telling me that I have a Quadro FX 1700M, which makes no sense to me (although it could have to do with me getting the mainboard replaced at some point).
