Laptop missing drivers

ok. I had to reformat my laptop . compaq r3000. My baby. And now its missing 2 devcies

Base system device
Sm bus controller

ok. So now i can't use my card reader on my laptop. And the scroll pad on the touch pad doesn't work. I'm assuming that the missing devices have something to do with it. Any thoghts.
 
Scour the web for the drivers you need. Start at the compaq site. Also check the cds your laptop may have come with. Ive reformatted about 5 laptops, all without original cds, and finding the drivers are a pain in the ass, but not impossible.
 
ya i just installed that software and it still doing the same thing. LIke the little scroll bar on the side of the touch pad doesn't move the page up and down....Not that i use the touch pad at all cuse i use a ouse but ti would be nice if it worked.
 
You don't have a little on/off switch for your touchpad by chance....I worked on one laptop for quite a few hours trying to get the pad to work only to find that the owner had been using a mouse and switched off the pad......
 
ya it has a on off switch right above the pad. i'm trying to use evervest to find out what type of type pad it is but its not listed there....
 
another thing. How can i find out if the drivers for my picture card are working... well i know there not working lol. when i plug a card in nothing happens....sooooo yah lol :rolleyes:
 
soo yah i think base system driver is the drier for the card reader. where could i find that drieR? i tried hp already. no dice..
 
still can't find find these evil drivers... system base driver has to be the dam cad reader. what could sm bus controller be?
